hecticly pissed off

Pan,

Quite clearly your anger is misdirected, in my books there is no such thing as a bandwidth hog in this case; The fact that WBS, Sentech + others have not considered the fact that certain users will be more active than others in their business model, means that they made this error in judgement + planning.
They should not hold their clientele at ransom and then try to convince everyone else that it's the fault of the so called "bandwidth hogs".
Hey, if hogs were a concern for them from the beginning surely they would have covered this more adequately in the contract.

Here’s the problem: once the threshold has been exceeded by the so-called "hog" contractually they should be placed on a slower 64K service, thereby not having any impact on the so called "good users". Ask yourself whether this is happening... clearly not otherwise, you would not be unhappy.

Try to see it from the so-called "hogs" point of view... now that would be a change. Take this anger everyone and direct it where a difference can be made: dear old Ivy... our effective GOV.

dont care wether its the bandwidth hogs, or WBS, but I am sure all those wonderful torrents the lot of you pulled down have helped screw up my month. Either fking pay for the bandwidth or piss off!

This is quite an ironic statement. If you go to PicknPay and there's no Orange Juice or no Cheese, do you go and hit the nearest person with 4 cheeses in his basket? Or do you go tell PicknPay to manage their supply of cheese better [or else] ? I've been reading some stuff on this forum, and even though i don't use iBurst [no reception] i must admit it's an absurd mentality. It's even more absurd if PicknPay told you "blame those pesky cheese eaters who buy 4 blocks per day, not us!" ....This is the exactly same situation [assuming speed issues are related to the 'bandwidth hogging'].

Simple economics. Supply and Demand. Do not sell what you can't supply.

Last three posts all right on: We are not "abusers" we are victims of iBursts incompetency. I would really like it if people would stop placing the blame on users who merely utilized a service they paid for and *gasp* didn't do WBS job for them!

Hi guys

I had to remove a couple of posts. I hate doing that and would appreciate a certain level of respect amongst members. There are ways of displaying anger or discontent which don't require swear words or getting personal to the degree where you would actually end up in a brawl should you have been in physical proximity. Note that I am not into censorship but there are bounds and they have been made very clear. Please help me out.

Thanks
Antowan

yes, thats a nice way of looking at, the way i look at it, is pick and pay is giving our 3 litres of free coke, but the people handing out the coke are deaf dumb and blind, and a couple of people in the cue, keep coming back for more and more, making sure that the rest of the people in the cue dont get any coke.

That is clearly incorrect. At risk of carrying this analogy too far (hmm... too late :) ) Pick n' Pay should not hire blind, deaf people to do a job which they can't do, it is up to them to prevent people from taking more than their fair share. Also, this analogy has the so-called "abusers" willfully coming back for more, whereas in actual fact, the speed was there, they could do nothing about it except willfully disconnect themselves from the Internet which even you must think is slightly unfair? Why should they be disadvantaged because WBS can't limit them? And based on WBS level of service, how much more do you think they would have been inconvenienced if they had had to spend hours on the phone just to speak to someone who knew what was going on so that WBS could *take away* the speeds they had? Surely anyone can see that this is unreasonable.... sorry if my explanations suck. :)

IBurst were very clever by partially releasing numbers of gigs downloaded, trying to make it seem like all the problems are due to 'bandwidth hogs' - and thus anyone who was disconnnected was therefore a 'hog'.

I remember Sentech wasnt this clever at trying to divide its customers, and instead blamed 'a small minority of abusers'.

This forum and members saw through that rubbish, and in the same way, IBurst users need to see through this tactic of IBurst for what it is - a Tactic to try and divide its customers (at least those on forum) and try and put the blame for its own incorrectly set up network, on users who - in 99.5% of all cases - were simply doing what they'd paid IBurst to let them do.

If IBurst wasn't a bunch of money grabbing, overfed, arrogant, pus infected guano-eating reptiles - they'd have set up their network correctly.

THEY didnt. So they're trying to blame the customers for doing simply what customers paid for the privilage of doing.

This focus (and anger) on blaming those that IBurst 'SAYS' is the problem, is not seeing or understanding the sneaky tactic that IBurst is using.

Channel the anger towards the real enemy, IBurst Management..

The question remains - What is acceptable use on broadband?

This can be echoed across the broadband landscape in South Africa. IMO it doesn't matter what you do with your connection, 3Gb is not enough. Rather than viewing people's use of the internet from a "what do they do" perspective it should be viewed from a "how much of it can they do" perspective.

I am not an iBurst user, but it seems to me like there needs to be more info from iBurst managmenet side as to whether the current problems are teething problems or whether this is the way things will be in future...

I hope it is teething problems... Somehow I think if ISP's were allowed to install their own infrastructure apart from the towers etc and move away from Telkom for the provision of certain connectivity services, things would be different.

...

Heh, you're missing one part there. The 3 litres coke are not free, you paid for it already. So now you see people in the cue with 80 litres of coke. Will you go and tell the guy to f off and stop hogging the coke or will you assume the following :
"Hmm i paid for my coke, so i'm pretty sure PicknPay will make 110% certain i get my coke, EVEN if this guy is obviously grabbing rediculous amounts of it"
You will further assume the following:
"I'm sure PicknPay got a plan in place to manage these guys grabbing 80 litres of coke, it shouldn't affect me , i paid for mine already afterall".

I mean what kind of business model is based on the customers slogging it out between each other to get what they already paid for? "Oh you want your bandwidth? Well here's a shotgun, the guy that took it lives here, go take it, it's YOUR problem not ours, cya later".

Regardless of how the milk, or the coke, or the cheese was obtained, certain people got a lot of it, and others didn't get much at all. The sale was chaotic and disorganised. The shop isn't asking them to bring the merchandise back, its just saying there's a stock limit, hold off until we can install a fairer method of distribution.

So, yes, on the one hand, the shop is to blame for the chaos.

And on the other hand, if you took way more than your money's worth, recognise that fact, smile, and get on with your life.

I don't know who i am pissing off, but the myadsl people keep on deleting my thread. and my posts! these forums have little or no effect anymore.

and now we are fighting amoungst eachother!

disappointed!

Remember that if you feel you are treated unfair by a MOD, you can email [email protected] and complain. I did not delete your thread AFAIK, but MODS have clear rules as to when threads should go.

Saint_DC, keep up the good fight. I have a lot of respect for iBursters' struggle. The fighting with WBS and eachother goes to show the passion amongst you. Keep up the good fight but respect eachother...

:)

Have you checked?

[/post]Hi Saint_DC

Please could you elaborate, which thread was one or more of your posts deleted?

Have you checked your own recent posts to verify that your posts(s) have actually been deleted? You can do this very easily by clicking the following link (obtained from your own public profile:

Find all posts by Saint_DC

In addition, you can should note that any threads you may have created could very well be on page 2 of the iBurst forum - there was a lot of thread activity today, and I am still playing catchup bcos electricity was off in my area today.

ic.

Please behave yourselves, thanks.

Yep, GS is 100% here IMO, WBS came up with the "abuse" story to side-step & cover up the fact that their verrry own Bandwidth Mismanagement non-system is not working according to the contractual agreements that WBS have with WBS' iBurst customers.

I said it somewhere yesterday, after the cap was introduced by WBS, there is no such thing as a "bandwidth hog" as it is WBS' responsibility to enforce the 64kBits/s throttling of customers that have used their allocated bandwidth.

Furthermore, the fact that WBS have advertised & contractually agreed to 64kBits/s once "capped", means that you can still upload/download once capped, but your speed will be limited aka throttled by WBS. There are is no room for WBS to debate this and start claiming that it did not mean that, the contracts iBurst customers signed are still legally binding on WBS - even now that WBS have seen fit to breach some of those contracts.

IMO, WBS have committed fraud in selling one thing and supplying another, and I am not just talking about the iBursters that had their accounts suspended, I am also talking about the rest of us that have been experiencing the speedlessness problem. So, don't get angry, get even with WBS.

Over & out :)

Have to agree connection sucks again I dont care if I can download at 1024 when it decides to work
The problem is I Manage remote servers and since all this crap has happened, well , you can guess climb in the car and drive out to clients to do simple tasks :(

VNC is a no go well infact any p2p is scr3w3d, When is all this going to be sorted.

Many posts say get hold of Shaun, well I have tried, left 2 messages sent 3 emails and countless to the helpdesk, and guess what? no reply now why does that not surprise me.

Are we or we are we not paying full price now?
Is the pre-launch over or not?

I have a 3 gig account and still have 1.15 Gig left and that after d/loading Linux just goes to show how little usage I am getting from this service if that is what you can call service!
They have our money and know that most of us do not want to deal with Telkom, so it is a win win situation for them.

I have applied for adsl but it is going to take them like 3 months as they are saying that the exchange needs to be upgraded :( it may not be as fast as iBurst but at least from my experience at the office it works!!!!!!!!

the only prob i am getting now is my modem keeps disconnecting. no disco lights, it looks pretty stable, feels pretty stable... but every once in a while. ping.... i dies. the connection that is.
