Heineken Draught

Bought one of these ages ago, only problem is that it creates so much froth that you ending up wasting so much beer, was not worth it IMO.
This is also the reason I only ever bought one. In the end it almost tastes like you're drinking water

To make it worse only the Keg's in Jhb have the draft.

I think that will change. Heineken are spending a bundle on getting pub owners on board. Local pub is getting a tap after they invited him to one of their marketing events. He told them it's not gonna sell in his pub and they are welcome to come and install their tap and see how long it lasts as their pricing is up to schite and no one is gonna drink a R20 beer when they can buy a R10 beer.

Having finished my one, in two days, this is what I have to report.

The taste is pretty good, but if you've told yourself that you don't like Heineken then obviously you'll hate the taste.

The froth/foam issue. Yes the first one you pull will be up to 90% depending on how cold the keg is. Colder = less froth. Also moving it about causes froth, so if you are going to pull it out the fridge every time you need a top-up you will have problems.

A top tip I picked up from other users is not to throw away that first frothy glass. Let the first glass full of foam stand and pour your second glass. By the time you are done with it the first glass with be 50% beer.

Another top tip is to keep the keg in an ice bucket with a little water while in use to keep it at optimal operating temperature.

I think my next one will be enjoyed with a friend so we can can finish it in one sitting :D

Yeah my dad has this issue. Then I asked him if he had followed the instructions and cooled to to 2'C for 10 hours I think the instructions say? He hadn't and did and the rest was OK. Ideally you need to keep it in the fridge :D

i wish you got this in Windhoek....other beers as well for that matter, Heineken is probably the worst beer available

Heineken draught is fantastic and definitely second the coldness advice. These have to be kept VERY cold for a few hours before serving - then no froth problem. I usually put them in the freezer for a good 3 - 4 hours. Seems to do the trick.

Well, that's a good start. Which is your local pub?:D

We stock both the Hansa and Heineken kegs, very good sellers, the shelf life of the Heineken at 30 days whereas the Hansa is a mere five days... As an avid beer drinker and home brewer, it is of my sober opinion, that these kegs are mere gimmicks and actually work out more expensive per litre than your normsl case...

I think guys buy because it screams "I'm a real man", a big can of beer looks more impressive than a couple of bottles :D

Heineken 5Lt = R170
Castle 9Lt = R130 (12 x 750ml)

Castle wins this round, scoring 4lt and R40
