Johannesburg - An alleged mastermind behind cash-in-transit heists in Gauteng, including one where R5m was taken, has been arrested, the Hawks said on Tuesday.
Thabo Edwin Makhetha was arrested in Honeydew on Monday and police confiscated his motorcycle and an Audi TT, said spokesperson Musa Zondi in a statement.
Zondi said Makhetha had been wanted for his alleged involvement in a casino robbery at Gold Reef City, another robbery in Mondeor and a robbery in Katlehong in October 2009, where R5m was taken from an SBV van.
Police also confiscated an SBV automatic rifle when they raided Makhetha's house.
He was expected to appear in the Roodepoort and Germiston Magistrates' Courts on Wednesday
