I bought this during the Steam Lunar sale and managed to get some game time last night.

This is seriously difficult.

For those that don't know, it's a FPS that aims for realism (compared to BF or CoD).

The ~200ms latency doesn't seem to be an issue, as the game is "slower" than BF and CoD with very little fighting happening at point-blank range.

It's not that great.
Quite generic actually. They are trying to be another post scriptum but can't decide what they want to do.
It's too difficult to be casual, but then nobody cares about orders, tactics or the commanders commands so it's not hardcore either.

It falls into decisively average. It also doesn't help that people vote for the same map over and over.
After 3 hours of play 90% of the time was on Omaha

Starts with a bang, but once you fall into the monotony of the game it gets boring quick.
Wanted a refund, but they are quite serious about the 2 hour limit so stuck with a game I will probably not bother with again.

I was trying to remember the other similar game that I found out about at around the same time, Post Scriptum:

There's a nice comparison between the two.

Post Scriptum is literally Squad (which in turn is based on Project Reality for BF2) but set in WW2. For anyone wanting a more modern experience.

All these games, Squad included, have the same problem.
No local servers.

Normally not that big of a deal when connecting to EU, but these games have almost exclusively community servers only. The problem with that?

Finding English speaking servers. Squad especially since teamwork is so important you need to understand the language and the only English speaking servers are UK based which has the highest EU pings.
I still play Squad occasionally (before the cable break that is) and the ping makes a huge difference in Squad and directly affects your enjoyment.

Hell Let Loose has the same problem, only worse. They added a update which allowed for ping kicks.
Seeing as most servers are community, good luck not getting kicked.

With my ~200ms ping I haven't been kicked yet. And the pace is slower than say BF or CoD, so I haven't had issues where I felt the latency is an issue.

Anyone still play this? How're the servers nowadays?

Been a few weeks since I last played, but the servers have been godawful
On Insurgency Sandstorm on EU I get a constant 180 - 190 ping.

On hell let loose, also EU, it ranges from 230 - 250 with regular spikes to 260 - 270
Unplayable so I stopped playing.

I picked this game up few weeks ago and I'm absolutely loving it.
Huge learning curve but very entertaining once you start understanding.

The ping is on the higher side than my normal average, 220-240ms

I played the last free weekend and the game has a real cinematic feel to it. Multiplayer games usually don't really have an atmosphere for me but this one feels like I'm in a Band of Brothers episode once the action hits. They nailed the feeling of playing a more realistic shooter but not going too far or adding too much arcadey Battlefield stuff. The visuals and sounds are impressive. Performance could use some work though.
