It doesn't redefine the action RPG, but in a genre laden with derivative games, Hellgate is a refreshing concoction that's likely to have enduring appeal.
Hellgate: London takes the elements that made the Diablo series classic, and puts them in new, invigorating setting of demonic threat, dark magic and high technology. The fresh world of Hellgate: London is its greatest asset, but sadly the game fails in capitalizing it properly, with quite shoddy plot and generic missions outside the main story. Nevertheless, Hellgate: London is a good action RPG with plenty to enjoy. How the multiplayer system works when the game hits stores will ultimately determine the staying power of the game.
Hellgate: London hooked me, and I think it'll do the same to a lot of other players. But no matter how much I adore its juicy roleplaying sub-systems, I can't get past its wobbly core game.
You might get sucked into the online world of competing slayers and level grinding for a while, but the tedium will kill you far quicker than any member of Hell's vast.
It is available locally then right? (About the download)
Where you getting it, on the SAIX or IS newsserver, local torrents or DC++?
And the User Rating is down to 7.0
I don't like the user rating thing to be honest. I mean come on, how could it have a user rating of 6.0........ LAST WEEK!!
People were voting for it even before the game was out. That's stupid.
Anyway, still gonna get it. I'm tired of finishing games two or three days after I've bought them. HL2-Ep2 was good, but come on. It took me less than seven hours to finish on normal. Then I played it again on hard and it took me less than six hours.
And now we wait a year and a half again for Ep3.
I need something that'll keep me busy. All I've got now is Tiger Woods 2008.![]()
I know where you are comming from. Lots of people will rate 10/10 for a game they like or 1/10 for a game they don't like. However, when you get lots, and lots, and lots of reviews, this evens out. I find it becomes a more reliable guide than the review sites which I am beginning to have serious issues with. Hellgate does not have nearly enough user reviews to meet this yet though. It needs thousands IMO.I don't like the user rating thing to be honest. I mean come on, how could it have a user rating of 6.0........ LAST WEEK!!:

As I said, I have become very dissillusioned with Game Review sites in general. The slew of games that are getting 9.5 - 10 is just crazy. Seems they are becomming more and more influenced by Hype. Halo 3 is a case in point. It's a good game. Glad I bought it. The single player is average to weak, but the multiplayer is very good. Graphics are pretty good, but not brilliant. But it's getting reviews like it's the second comming. A game that can get 10/10 should be utterly, undeniably fantastic. But this is not what is happening. And this is the result. Hellgate gets about 80% and that effectively means a bad review? What the hell, 80% should be great. But the way reviewers are handing out near perfect scores, I just don't know anymore. So when something doesn't get a perfect score, I have to wonder why.
P.S. And whats is it with shooters? Enough shooters already FFS. You only need like two or three a year, not dozens. Please god lets get some creativity back into the gaming world instead of constant retreads.
erm.. you dont HAVE to
