If you feel bad about HelloPeter thats still fine. I believe it serves a.purpose. HelloPeter is just like mybroadband forums here where ppl to raise complaints where companies fail to respond appropriately. I dont see anything wrong with that. I had a number of complaints with cellc, mtn and truworths. For me it showed me that Cellc responded swiftly. While MTN and Truworth were the exact opposite. So as far as iam concerned, if a company can respond to my queries, i pull out my next weapon, hellopeter and mybroadband. And i know on these two platforms they will respond either way. So i dont understand what you mean its blackmail. If i show up at company or call and dont the kind of service i want, i ask for the manager and the guy tells me he is the manager and he is the one one screwing up. Then i contact customer service which responds to my query after 14 days. You reckon i should still look for other alternatives other than hellopeter. No ways hellopeter gives response in minutes for companies that are lousy like mtn and truworths. Their service channels are dead. Hellopeter and mybroadband are doing them a service by showing them exactly what they are failing to do on their own

as others have suggested here, I have used the site as a last resort to good effect, especially with my grievances with DSTV (who I no longer support).

The only "company" that did not respond was the City of Cape Town who incorrectly cut my water (for three days!) and charged me for it (disconnection and reconnection)- I have yet to receive an apology or suitable explanation from an official two years later.

I always try to resolve issues directly with the company I am having hassles with. However if we do not get results , then I post on Hellopeter.

I have used them and have gotten results.

I have used HP 3 times in the last 10 years, but only after I tried to resolve it myself first. Edgars took me 3 years to resolve and I put it on HP and it was resolved in 3 hours.

As South Africans we are not vocal enough about poor service. When a company abuses our trust and treats as as second rate then we need to speak up.

Use Afrihost as an example. They have always been known for excellent service. Yet the last few months complaints are starting to stream in. This is clearly a company that has grown big and arrogant. I have personally been on the receiving end of their bad service so I am actually doing something about it. I facebooked about it, tweeted about it, blogged about it, told my friends and family about it. When the topic of internet or isp's come up I speak about it. In short I am doing everything I can to discourage people to use them.

If we all did that type of thing companies will become better at client service.

It works, and most complaints I have seen narrate how people were sent from pillar to post when they tried to complain directly with the company.

I only use HP as an absolute last resort.

Like in my recent run in with Multichoice, their contact centre was just being otherwise about trying to resolve an issue that they had created.. so a complaint on HP ended up solving the problem quickly enough.

I'd prefer not to use it, but I know from experience that certain companies, and pretty much all the banks, will do nothing until a complaint goes on Hellopeter, so I don't even bother to contact them directly anymore.

Hellopeter itself is of course guilty of much bad behaviour. They definitely don't take well to complaints about themselves. They also delete repeated complaints about the same problem even when the company in question is lying about having dealt with the problem.

Well, after weeks of emailing discovery I only got my issue resolved after a single complaint on hellopeter.

Sometimes it's the only way to get a decent response from a company, unfortunately. The fact that they are paying for the right to respond means they actually make an effort to respond so as not to waste their money. Works for me...

I think it is a waste of time. About 90% of the responses are a generic "we are looking into the matter and will get back to you" and nothing is done

About 8 years ago, HP sent me an email from a customer complaining about my own business. When I asked HP for the details, it turned out that the complainant's spelling was incorrect and they had even got the wrong city. I issued a strongly worded response on HP the following day, but they would not retract their mistake. I wrote a complaint to HP about the errors but only received an acknowledgement, never a proper response

When I don't get good service from a big supplier HP works.
Just trying to get acknowledgement that my dstv service was cancelled in writing was impossible from their call centre go on HP and get it. The big companies seem to have decent people handling HP

I won't use that site.

As far as I'm concerned it's blackmailing companies to have to pay to respond to their customers.

Every time I have had a problem, I have had it resolved by speaking to the company directly.

I make a point of using Hellopeter to also put in compliments to companies that provide really good service. I've still found it useful for genuine complaints, except situations where FNB was involved.

FNB only respond with generic messages to complaints and when they phoned me it had nothing to do with my complaint. I have now paid off my laptop this month which I got through FNB and I am looking at moving my accounts to another bank. I was with ABSA previously which I thought was a bad bank, but FNB really takes the cake for terrible customer service.

One situation where I had a problem with a insurance claim, putting up a complaint on Hellopeter, resulted in the claim being settled and fixed within two days. I also had one instance where I received bad service from an electronics goods store which resulted in a call from the store manager and I was offered an additional discount on the item I wanted to purchase.

I think the complaints that it servers Peter Cheals and his narrow focus is accurate. I also think its extortion.

Its really annoying when random customers (that havent even bought a product from you) use it as some kinda support system. It costs to response and that is really an unnecessary expense.

Saying all that it useful in some regards. It has a lot of potential.
