Hi

title is in caps because some guy is spamming all the pastel threads and keeps bumping them to the top

alright i need a little guidence please.

i have a 384 line on a wifi router, not using lan at all.

i use the wifi on both the laptop and my deskop

i want to know how to access my desktop using my laptop wirelessly (sp) if possible.

basically i want to transfer files between the two when i need too. i tried remote desktop connection but have no idea what i'm doing to be honest.

can someone point me to an easy to use guide or post steps here to help me ?

question no. 2

i have a N series phone that i would like to use to browse in interwebs with using my wifi connection while in the house, problem is that i've setup my router in bridge mode and now when i connect with my phone i only connect to the router, HOW do i connect to my ISP once a wireless connection is made ?

Its a symbian 5 phone 5800 etc

any help is greatly appreciated :D

well first ... setup a home network that should link ur lappy with ur desktop ... anything with win XP and up makes it
easy for a 2yr old to setup, check under the network section of ur OS

As for browsing with ur phone with wifi ... just put ur wifi access settings into ur phone and activate the wifi and u should
have a connection

Most wifi routers have dhcp so the complicated stuff should all be done for u, all u have to make sure
is that ur security is on the right level for u to do all this and even that is easy.

You will have to share folders on the desktop by right clicking on the folder you wish to share and selecting share - follow the easy instructions.
Once shared goto your laptop and click start then run and type "\\your desktop PCs name" and a window should pop up with your shared folder.
Just copy paste from there.

either share a folder on the desktop, with the correct permissions... or enable remote desktop. (for remote desktop to work, you must have a password on the desktop)

Ry4n is closest. You have to keep in mind that everything still works the same as a normal lan, it just "wireless".

Are you using DHCP on the router?
What OS are you running on the laptop and desktop?
On which one did you set up the PPPoE connection to get onto the internet?
Are you using ICS?

As for the phone, will only be able to help once you have answer the other questions...

Edit: BTW, this is the software part of the forum, so basically, you are in the wrong place. ;) The pastel guys have right of passage. :D

xp sp3 on both the laptop and desktop, not sure about the dhcp but i'm sure i can set it to whatever it should be .... (thats in the router right?)

the pppoe is set up on the desptop but the laptop works exactly the same way ie i connect to the router wirelessly and the double click the openweb icon on my desktop.

no idea whats ics ...

i setup the wifi using the router disk (easy install) so everything was done automatically basically.

pastel grrrrrr :( dont use swear words in this thread

Question 2:

The phone will not be able to connect through your router if your PC is making the PPPOE connection.
In theory if you set your gateway on your phone to your PC's IP, it should work.
If you cannot change your gateway on your phone, try and change it on DHCP on your router.

I would suggest you do the following.

1. Share your internet connection on the desktop aka ICS (Internet Connection Sharing)
2. Configure your laptop to use static ip and use 192.168.0.1 as default gateway and dns on the laptop. Excample
Note that your desktop will be 192.168.0.1, so you can make the laptop 192.168.0.2. You will also notice that when configuring ICS on a XP pc, that pc becomes a DHCP server, but because
the router is doing it as well, I would recommend going with static IPs
3. Share the folders on each which you want to browse. You might have to change the security permissions as well of that folder. I do the security on my drives, but only at my home setup. You might have to
open "My Computer" and click on "Tools -> Folder options", Click on "View" and at the bottom somewhere you will find something that says: "Use simple sharing something". Can remember exact wording.
Uncheck that to get the security tab for changing the security settings.
4. On your phone, connect to the wireless network and configure it with a static IP as well, same as laptop, but use 192.168.0.3 as IP address instead. Linky.
Keep in mind, when connecting to another wireless network, you will have to change this again to access the internet from that network.

PS: +1 on the P****L word. :D

This is not correct.

But I agree with the rest of the suggestion.

If you say so. ;)

As part of the process of enabling ICS, the network adapter for the internal network on the host computer is set to a fixed IP address of 192.168.0.1 and a special DHCP server is enabled on that connection.

MS also mentions it on the link that I posted.

a very simple solution to your first question is to use the freeware program teamviewer, its easy to use for both remote desktop and I think can share files also. Hope it helps
