Hi all you peepz out there.

I was wondering if anyone could help me with something...

I recntly updated my router's firmware (A SureCom 9410SX-G Annex A router) and suddenly, boof, I couldn't get access to certain thing on the internet (Like trying to log into facebook, the connection times out. Trying to log into my own Bidorbuy page, the connection times out. Trying to activate windows, it cant connect to Microsoft... Reason: Connection timed out. Trying to access the SureCom forums to report this, the connection times out!)

I wish a real IT bof out there could help me with this as even Mweb (My ISP) can't help me with this.

It CANNOT possibly be software on my PC that is restricting internet access as I just formatted my PC thinking it was a problem with my OS.

I have two other computers connected to my router which both work with wireless AND LAN/Ethernet and my PC has the same problems with wireless AND LAN/Ethernet.

Plz help, im desperate.

Has to do with DNS...

Check your settings again, and if possible, use your ISP's DNS Servers, or even OpenDNS 208 IP's

Your pc might have some dns cache left, and thats why u can open some websites, and others not.

DNS only translates the name into an ip adres, no data traffic really goes over dns

You can also try and reset router to defaults and try everything over again...

Personally, i think your DNS is buggered

As a matter of fact, your IP range can also be dodgy, what is it ? Try changing it to a private address range, 192.168.0.x/24

It can be your ISP aswell, try "borrowing" a friends ADSL account just to test. It can also be your wireless access point, can be very very dodgy after firmware flashes !!!

You really have to troubleshoot any possible reason for it to be down

Try to ping local ip addresses, then SA-only ones, then international ones.

After that, ping DNS names, SA-only, then international

After that, do some traceroutes to local LAN, then SA-only, then International

:P

...???

Aqox, could you tell me how to do these please?

I just want to tell everyone that I formatted my PC so all settings are at default AND I reset all my settings on my router by holding the reset button for 20 seconds and I had to enter all my settings again.

Could it be something to do with Windows XP Home? I am saying this as the other two PC's on the network use Windows XP Pro (I have tested both with wireless and LAN/Ethernet and they both work perfectly).

if you can access some sites and not others and you sure you didnt change anything on your pc besides updating your routers firmware, then it might be have something to do with your MTU. Mine is on 1492.

I might be wrong about whats causing it, but its worth a shot seeing if that will solve it.

definetly not my MTU, its also 1492... I coudlnt have changed anything on my PC cos I just formatted it and reinstalled Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack 2

I hoped you made a backup of the router frmware before you updated it, if so restore the old firmware, if not, try to obtain it.
