Help - Building my own PC

Why would you got AMD? Because the mobo's are cheaper?

To be honest buying an AMD atm is stupid the Q6600 > Phenom 9850 and its R300 cheaper... Or do you think AM2+ will be around longer...

No one has commented on my post about the socket problem, because Im sitting with the same problem :(

I agree, Intel FTW! The only time I ever buy or suggest buying AMD is when I want to run a dedicated linux server! :eek:

I still say no use in buying such an expensive mobo atm...
 
Well there is never any use in buying the first batch of the range of the new series of CPUs, as the later realeses are always better performance+value for money compared to the last range of the previous CPU tech.
 
My vote is rather wait sandy bridge to come out, and give the others I miss all together. ;)
 
Ok, so after a hell of alot of thinking, I have a much clearer picture of what I want, thanks for your ideas. This is the setup I'm almost decided on then, bearing in mind my budget and value for money:

Asus P5Q Deluxe motherboard
Intel Core2Quad Q6600
ATI HD4850
4 GB RAM
Seagate 500GB SATAII 32MB cache
Gigabyte ODIN 550W PSU
Samsung 2232GW 22"
Coolermaster Ammo 533 case

I'm adding in a 120mm rear fan on this case because I just want to make sure it runs as cool as possible. Problem for me at this point is this: I may be able to get a Q9550 chip for like R200 more than the Q6600. Any suggestions? Also what do you guys think about the PSU? Good enough?
 
Get the 9550 then and the psu is fine, i have the same one and running 3 raptors, 2 4850's and an e8400@4gig with no hassles :)

How much does that system come upto? Seems like the same specs Im looking at, maybe just the E8400 and not the Q6600

I'll tell you for sure as soon as I have decided 100% because I'm still looking at different suppliers etc. Some components I know I'll probably get cheaper elsewhere but I also want to deal with suppliers that I can actually deal with face to face. But I'm estimating about R14K, maybe a little less. If I get the Q9550 at the price I've seen, it would be great!
