I'm looking to buy a new TV. Will be using it to mainly watch netflix, dstv and youtube. The TV doesn't have to be 4K.
My budget is R15000.
I'm stuck between the LG OLED A7 FHD model and the LG 55SK7900PVB which is a 4K nano cell display.
Please help.

How long do you plan on keeping the TV?

That damn TV had better be 4K if I was going to throw R15k at it!

4K HDR 60p minimum. I would steer clear of OLED TV's if you plan to keep it a while. OLED degrades over time.

An ongoing test shows heavy burn-in on OLED displays - although these tests simulate displays showing the same picture continuously.

Thank you!
The only problem I have with the nano cell ons is that the refresh rate is only 60Hz.
What other TV's could I be looking at the R15k price range?

If you watch a lot of sports I would avoid OLed and go for QLED otherwise you risk the Supersport Logo burned into the top of your screen over time.

I don't see why you would want more than 60Hz?

Don't fall for that "true-view smooth motion 144Hz" marketing BS crap.

I can't understand how people can watch these simulated refresh rates, it always looks jittery to my eyes

Okay thank you so much.
So I'll be going for the SK7900 then, or would you guys recommend I look at some other brands or do you know any TV's that are better than the SK7900 for R15k?

The SK8000 is one model up, with better image processing.

Apparently the SK7900 was a special edition for the Football World Cup.

So you would recommend Hisense?
I'm only asking because I've heard some bad things about their panels in association with viewing angles.
Take a look at Hisense and there isn't anything wrong with the viewing angle.

Bad viewing angles is not a Hisense problem, it affects all manufacturers that use VA panels.

OLED = Best viewing angles
IPS = Good viewing angles
VA = Bad viewing angles

You can use this website https://www.displayspecifications.com/ to see the panel types of different tv's

This Hisense:

I think it is a good balance for the price. It's a more premium Hisense model, compared to the entry level Hisense 55 inch TVs which goes for around R8k.

Otherwise, if you want to spend up for a premium Samsung, you can go for this:

This TV went for R15k on Takealot the other day, sure you will be able to grab it for around that price if you shop around or wait a bit.
