Help! can router cause bad pings?

Hi

when i do a ping to games.saix.net, i get 51ms. I used to get closer to 32ms.
when i log onto bf2, my ping inround starts at 60, and goes up to 190, then hovers around 160...
im still getting around 420kbytes/sec off local news servers using my 4mbit line, so it cant be the exchange?

could it be my telkom 5100 router? why does the ping deteriorate as the round starts?

1) i disabled firewall to verify
2) disabled AVirus to verify
3) disabled routesentry and just used SAIX account to test.

also, its not firewalls or my PC, as i get ingame lag on XBOX360 matches against local guys as well... and the router doesnt have a firewall enabled.
I let my PC handle that...

so should i go out and get another router, if so, which one?

nrg go pick up a cheap usb adsl modem

they like 300 bucks or something

i doubt its the modem

phone telkom ask them to downgrade you line to 2 meg or 1 meg and see

dont buy a router until you know fo sure its the router

have u tried running both saix and openweb only?
