I had an 8 channel CCTV System installed in my house about a year ago now, I bought it from CCTV Direct and got some guys to install it. It worked fine till about a month ago where 4 cameras just were not displaying anything. I decided to check it up yesterday and realized another 2 weren't showing any video on the screen.

Funnily enough its all the outside cameras that were not working. I checked the cameras itself and it seems to have power as the red light around the camera does come on. I tried changing the coax cable to different channels and the indoor cameras do work on the other channels on the DVR, but the outside cameras still say 'no video'.

Has anyone experienced anything similar? Whats the best way I can troubleshoot this? Is there anything in specific I can check that can save me time ?

Any help would be highly appreciated!

Cheap cameras die after about a year or two when exposed to the weather or sun...

^this. Most of the guys sell the cheap Chinese no-name imports that don't last.
The indoor ones will die in the 2nd year.
Replace the dead ones with a good quality brand like hikvison

Okay wait. So the cameras are definitely dead ?

But first make sure they will work on the DVR (my August-bought easylink kguard DVR can't handle the nice high quility new cameras that came with my December-bought HD Hybrid series DVR, for example).

Swop a working one with a non working one on the dvr.

This will prove if it is the dvr or camera faulty.

Start from the basics.

1. Swap around the cables in the back of your dvr. you can then rule out a loose connection.
2. Swap the camera with a working camera from another spot. That will rule out a power drop or busted cable.
3. Seems like you have an 8ch system. you could have a problem with power supply since you are possibly supplying the cameras and the dvr?
4. cables not cut purposely in hard to find areas to avoid detection?
5. last option is connect the camera directly to the dvr.

If its the cameras then buy from esquire the K guard replacement. they good on image and last forever. Both my houses have them. i did a self install and its been 4 years now and still perfect.
