Hi all

Since I use the train to work i've decided to get a bicycle that I can leave at work so that I can ride around during lunch incase I need to go somewhere or even just for fun/exercise.

I'm not really a cyclist, last rode a bike when I was a kid. So i'm looking at something entry level instead of too advanced. Where can I get one in CT?

Oh I think what I want is a "freestyle" BMX since i'd eventually like to learn some tricks and stunts, should I get that from the start or ease into it with a cheaper bike?

Also, know of any skate parks in Cape Town? Always wanted to get into the sport.

Edit : how about this one http://www.olympiccycles.co.za/Product/Mongoose/Mongoose-Subject.aspx

Hmmm.

R750 is going to get you utter ****e. Rather look on gumtree or thehub for a second hand mongoose or something.

I'm sorry to say but entry level bikes go for R4000 upwards these days.

Yeh i decided against the Makro ones. Would rather get something decent from the start.

Not sure about 2nd hand since I don't know what to look for in a bike so don't want to get ripped off.

Are you a small fellow? If so a BMX will be fine but if you are taller or heavier go for a bmx kind of mountain bike, like a single speed dirt jumper.

You can do pretty much anything you can do on a BMX on them and they are just as strong, if not stronger and of course you have the benefit of a suspension fork. See Sam Pilgrim:

I have the same bike as him.

Only about 2 or 3 skateparks around Cape Town but nothing special, however there are tons of dirt jumping and street spots, lots of events as well.

That Mongoose will be OK. I had a Mongoose a few years back at around the same price. I only used it for dirt jumping and it survived many hard crashes.

I'm pretty small, 1.67M and 55kg. Now just to decide whether I need a park/street BMX or a dirt one.

are there any that can be used for both?

You get real kak Mongoose for 8 year olds and also some pretty decent Pro stuff. You get what you pay for.

Not a massive difference.
