Hello folks,

I've decided to bite the bullet and order a 5GB Cell C Package.
The reason I'd like an ADSL modem as well is I plan to get ADSL next year some time and would rather not have to buy a modem when I do.

I've seen a few recommendations for the D-Link DSL-2650U which has a USB port for attaching a 3G modem. Trouble is I can't seem to find a modem compatibility list for this router and I need to be sure it will support the Huawei E1820 that the Cell C package comes with. I think this is because none of the D-Link website list 3G support as a feature but there's obviously some other work-around for making this happen.

I'm open to any suggestions/recommendations but please note that I am complete and utter networking n00b! :)

Thanks guys

Come on guys.. help a gal out pweeeeeseeee *pout*

I managed to find a compatibility list for the D-Link but the E1820 isn't listed. howardb seems to have it working with an E172 though which isn't listed either: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...-ADSL-router?p=4727771&viewfull=1#post4727771

Apart from the D-Link I've found the Billion Bipac 7402GXL which has an ADSL modem and 3G support but it's price-tag is a lot heftier than the D-Link (around R1300 whereas the D-Link is closer to R700).

The Billion's compatibility list doesn't have the E1820 on it either tho :(

Wow not a single reply... that's a first...

Ok can anyone provide any feedback on experiences with TP-Link or Planet routers? These are the cheapest 3G routers I can find but I'm concerned about the brands.
If they suck I'll have to opt for Netgear or something similar

There's a sticky thread in the Cell C forum about compatible routers etc, have you looked at those?

I have tested the E1820 on the Netgear MBR624GU, the Huawei D100T and according to the specs it also works on the Dovado MBR.

Yeah I had a look there. IIRC they are all 3G routers only and I was hoping to find something with an ADSL modem as well.
The same question was asked about the Billion in that thread but there was never a response.

One person was good enough to mention that he was very happy with his TP-Link products but I was hoping to get a little more than one comment on the brand :)

@ charlie_82 - you have PM :)
Thanks mate :) Much appreciated.
I really like the D-Link - you aren't the only who recommended it but I'm so worried it won't work with the E1820 - especially since I'll only have the 3G connection for now.

I'm beginning to think I should just get a 3G router with a WAN port for now and get the ADSL modem at a later stage. Perhaps not a bad idea for when the lightning strikes lol

;) I haven't got access to an E1820 to test, but the firmware is similar to the older E182, and that does work on the D-link (my work 3G device is an E182 that use occasionally at home). I've also got my ZTE K3520-Z to work on the E220 setting... although I battle with this device on any PC/laptop!

Thanks buddy.
How many ports does your 2650U have? I've seen some listed as two and other as one...

lol Drake2007 - how'd you delete your post? I need to know that trick :D

Edit > Delete :)

Yeah I can't see if that Victory300 would be compatible with Cell C

Mine has 4-ports - afaik all DSL-2650U models have 4 ports - if it has 1 or 2 ports only, then there's something not right... :)

LOL sorry! Sometimes I type too fast and I skip words in between :-/
I meant to ask how many USB ports you have. I'm assuming two with the image you linked?

Yep, there are 2x USB ports. I use one for the 3G device and the other for my 16GB mem-stick storage sharing for my connected PC's (the mem-stick holds our shared documents and e-mail PST files so they are centrally accessible...just in case the PC's crash)
