Hello all :)

This is my first post on MyBB so please don't kill me :D

For a long while I have been with MWEB (2Mbp Uncapped) and for a while it suited my needs (mostly streaming and the occasional torrent/http download here and there). Over the last few months however, I have been throttled to near zero speeds, without any warnings of any kind. Enough is enough at this point and I am switching ISP's. But it's hard to decide who to exactly, and I hoped the kind people of MyBB could help me/advise me with this.

I am tempted to move to Afihost's Business Uncapped (2Mbps) but after reading numerous complaints about poor speeds/connectivity issues in the Cape Town area (where I am) I am not so sure anymore. That is my first option, costing R397/month (excluding line rental).
Option 2 is going with a 100GB FatPipe account from VOX (for daytime use) in conjunction with a Gig4Gig account with BoltOn (also with VOX) for after hours and weekends. This comes to R387/month (again excluding line rental).
I average about 75-85GB/month and I am thinking the fact that unused bandwith rolls over with FatPipe could be of benefit if my usage ever increases.
If anyone has another suggestion then could you please let me know, because I want to move to an ISP that can actually give me a good internet experience.

Thank You,
Ninja Cat Out :D

Afrihost all the way.
Get a 100GB capped line
This also gives you an additional 100GB
This will run at your line speed
All for R399

There's no need to change ISPs. Just upgrade to Premium.

i'd much rather pay for a capped account and get more consistent speeds than pay for an "uncapped" that isn't actually uncapped.

Which is why I said go premium. The limits are more than double of standard.

Chevron you seem to be one of very few people who recommend Mweb's Uncapped ADSL. Are you currently with them or been with them in the past? If so would you mind telling me which account you have/had and what speeds you get/got?

my problem isn't how much bandwith i am allocated, its about speeds. 2 years with MWEB, hardly ever touched 200kpbs which is what i should be getting at most times (give or take) i can understand not having it 24/7 because the account is "uncapped" so aup bla bla, but at least a couple of times a week? tried afrihosts free 1GB account. never dropped below 220kbps. needless to say i used the gig in a couple hours :D

Afrihost should not disappoint these days, I know quite a few people people with capped accounts and they run very well. I have tested Netflix and the such and all work perfectly as well. Downloads always run at full speed. - definitely good value for money!

Business accounts should perform as the capped accounts do.

Your advice only applies to Durban ;) Other IPC's may differ.

Well then I would suggest that ninja cat purchases the R29 account and test everything that the account will be used for. If it works, then you know ;)

Just make sure to cancel before the 25th of the month if you don't need it the following month.

Good advice ;)

Make sure you do that when the network is busy again next year when business goes back to work (probably when the load shedding starts again :p)
