Hi there.

Firstly, thanks for all the help and info I'll get from you guys.

Secondly, I currently have a 5GB Afrihost account on a 384kb/s line but I use about 10GB per month.

Can you guys please suggest any good uncapped service providers for me? I'd like to stay on the 384kb/s line.

My Internet usage habits are as follows:
My usage will probably not be more than 20GB (max 30GB) per month as I do not download from p2p or torrents.
I mostly only browse websites, Facebook, a little bit video streaming (live cams, youtube, break.com) and IM chats (text, audio, video) on skype and MSN.

I'd like to get a uncapped ISP account that will provide especially good quality audio and video for Skype and MSN without the audio and video breaking up. This is important to me.

Please suggest good ISP's and provide feedback on your service from that ISP's support and speed/quality?

Kind regards

MWEB slooooooooooooooooooow. love Afrihost's speed, but not their soft capping.

I would actually go with Afrihost, their speed is good and I think their soft capping IS actually sensible and I think you will find more ISP's adopting that strategy as time goes by, I think the trick is to not be like a kid in a candy store and download the world, but pace yourself.

I would highly suggest maybe upgrading the line if you could, the higher speed lines helps video streaming a lot, especially 4mbit lines as you can then stream HD from some locations, like Revision3.

Other than that, if you really really not going to do more than 30gb, any IS based uncapped ISP, however I still believe M-Web will stay the popular choice for now until the IS based options give more leeway than 30gb...

MyISP is the cheapest so far for a 384kbps line at R159 / month, since you're not P2P it won't matter that it is shaped.
Maybe some forumites using them can comment on skype etc..

I have Afrihost and Mweb uncapped on a 4MB line. Afrihost is the fastest (by quite a bit) until their throttling starts. So if you are downloading less than 60GB a month (as described), you will probably still be better off with Afrihost, otherwise over 60GB, M-Web is a better solution.

Good Luck!

Those thresholds are much lower on a 384k account.

With respect, the whole idea of having uncapped is that you don't have to pace yourself. Pacing yourself is what you do when you have a capped account.

I have a 384 line and an uncapped account with afrihost. If you exceed the 10Gb, you are going to be throttled. Throttling on a 384 line will pretty much mean you cant do anything with that line.

Go with Openweb. Their accounts are working much better than Mweb at the moment. See my stats in my signature.

That web page has so many different options, which one are you referring to?

I suspect very few of the current uncapped offerings are going to provide what you need.

My suggestion would be to look at SAOL seeing their uncapped traffic is unshaped but you pay for that. Alternatively Cybersmart's inclusive packages also offer unshaped bandwidth but it's not uncapped. With their offerings you should easily get your 20-30GB although the way their packages and addons work are a bit confusing if you ask me as a CS customer.
