Hi guys, I downloaded and used Nitro to create a catalogue for emailing to potential clients. However, it ended up being 120mb for only 3 pages of pictures! The images were not large, so not sure how the file size is so big.

I compressed it with Winrar but it's 27mb, still huge. Any help would be appreciated!

Make sure you are using jpeg and not bitmap or tiff files for images.

Yep, they all jpeg. If there isn't a solution for this, is there another program to create a catalogue?

.pdf is normally a very compact format. Are the individual images not a much higher resolution than they need to be?

Is your document 3 large images, if so then it is going to be big. If it is a combination of vector text and images it should be smaller.

The best thing is to find someone with Acrobat Pro, in Acrobat pro you have far more options to compress the file. There's actually a whole lot of presets when you save it, and you can just choose to save it as a "Smaller File".

Unless it's going to be printed proffesionally there is no need for the Jpeg's to be compressed greater than 150dpi. You can also choose not to embed fonts which will also reduce file size.

WinRar ain't going to do nothing for you.

Here's an idea... why not try something like PrimoPDF? It installs a virtual printer that outputs to .pdf and if memory serves you had quite decent options with regards to final quality and whatnot. I haven't used it in yonks, but it always sufficed for the couple of times I needed to generate a .pdf.

...assuming you've got your proposed catalogue in a .doc/.docx format.

+1

I regularly use PDF optimizer in Acrobat Pro Extended when mailing my PDF's for non-publication purposes.

Hope you are still using XP. For Starters, open the Pic, individually with "Paint". Still one of the best compression apps out there. Do the Stretch thing and get the pic sized to fit your screen. You will reduce the Pic size dramatically.

Printing to PDF with large Pics does not shrink the size of the File. Hows this....size matters :D

Need more Info, PM me.
