Any technie out there that can help - before I throw my router out the window (or at someone at Mweb).

New ADSL installation 2 weeks ago (MWeb all inclusive). All running fine - synch stable, good speeds etc.

All of a sudden - Monday comes (10 days after installation) and the data throughput becomes erratic (browsing and email) (still solidly synched), and gradually gets worse and worse.
After some hopeless attempts to resolve with the MWeb call centre on Monday - eventually get some help (and Telkom is blamed).
Through Tuesday no joy - don't know what Mweb and Telkom did, but all sorts of feedback about port resets, the line then being shown as suspended etc.
Tuesday eve - get PPP link, good synch etc but can't browse further than the Telkom site.
Today - more faffing with Telkom - eventually they send a Telkom tech around - confirms the line is fine to the exchange.
Now sitting with MWeb still unable to get that PPP light to stay on.
Now blaming the router - but if that was the case, how come I could browse to the Telkom website.

Anybody with some insight and input - after 3 days I am now seriously frustrated and fedup.

you can't get the PPP light to stay on but you managed to browse to Telscums site ?

After they verified the port Tuesday eve - PPP light stable on, and could browse Telkom site. Told me it would take about 30mins and I should be able to browse further. Niks - tried restarting the router periodically as well. ADSL synched everytime at full rate (4096/512), SNR ok (20dB down, 16 dB up) etc.
Today, in an attempt to fix why I couln't browse further they started their fiddling, and now apparently can't get the PPP light to stay on.
They were still insisting a Telkom line problem (despite the obvious evidence to the contrary) and Telkom came out a checked the line this pm and confirmed all ok.
No not capped - confirmed by Telkom as well (not even used a third of cap)

I often recommend to people to get a AXXESS prepaid voucher from Pick 'n Pay to test your line. It will be cheaper than a techie (who will do the same). This way you can check if its MWEB or Telkom.

But you could also try:

Login as a telkom guest account unless your router is locked onto MWEB:

Username: guest@telkomadsl
Password: guest

See how long you stay connected - try and ping and even telnet to telkoms website every few minutes.

But also check your filter - that could be faulty and try a different telephone cable (experienced both of these problems).
