I finally bit the bullet and had a telkom line installed for adsl, can't be ripped off from voda bundles anymore :p

To start I got the 384 adsl option from telkom. Can someone tell me which adsl router I need to buy, ideally it should be able to broadcast wirelessly so i can listen to internet radio on the mede8er, does not have to be a rolls royce, just a router with the basic necessities.

I would like to effortlessly buy gigs online from an isp if and when i need it, i would mainly be using the connection for low quality video (flv series etc) and normal browsing, perhaps with the odd torrent now and then. Which isp would i ideally go for in such an instance?

Many thanks for any advice offered.

If you're not using more than 5GB/month, then I'd recommend the Cell C HSDPA thing, where you get 5GB/month for 12 months & the HSDPA USB modem for R3000 once off.

I would recommend a TP-Link or D-Link ADSL modem. You have have a look at the TP-Link routers at Uniterm Direct. Please just take note that their prices are excluding VAT.

Axxess, WebAfrica, Afrihost & OpenWeb all offer capped accounts at decent rates.
It's worth while to have a look at traffic splitting, and making use of local news servers, especially if you're going for a capped local only account which is a lot cheaper than an international or uncapped account.

entry level line, uncapped account either mweb or openweb then ( i recommend openweb, have my service with them for a few years and they are on the ball musch better service that mweb and its month to month, so if u dont pay u dont use )

routers are complicated, look for one that doesnt have lots of issues, like a billion, its easy to use and stuff and u cant brick it ( i hope not )

MWEB also has some good offerings on uncapped and bundled capped services.

Stay away from the ISP provided ADSL modems, as well as Billion & Netgear ADSL modems.
