Help Dvd rw has died

I tried to install a sata dvd into my pc, it did not work. Then went back to my ide dvd rw. it gives error, insert cd. The light comes on but it is not reading the cd.

Did it pick any of it up in the Bios?

Sorry about the delay Escom did its trick again.Yes it does pick it up in Bios.It does not spin up. im using Xp

It might have been damaged when you swapped it, though not very likely.

See if you can take it to another pc and see if it works.

You told me you ipdated the bios, was it before or after swapping the drives?

That was after swaping the drives when it did not work, I fitted it to a Giga Byte 800 m/board.

XP could not boot just a bluescreen of death for a split second then the pc starts booting over and over.

All the other drives are ide.

i think your plan of taking it to another pc is the best idea.

Looks like im going to have get another ide dvd unit if that does not work, it will probably work out cheaper rather than taking it in for repairs.

Also try swapping the IDE cables...that use to work for me
