HELP!!!! FAT32 to NTFS conversion without data loss??? POSSIBLE?

And how long did it take you, including all the research?

About 1 hour in total :p


Breakdown:

The conversion process took about 10 minutes :p

The execution of chkdsk /R command took about 30 minutes.

That's it, mate.

My external HDD's been fully defragmented now :p That took about 4.5 hours :eek:

Now I'm copying everything from my internal 500GB HDD to the external one.

I feel so clean now.

Although you have effectively resolved your issue, I would just like to make a comment before someone decides to try this with critical data.

"What would the result be if Eskom decides to drop your power while this conversion is in Progress".

I see data loss, corrupted data in the above scenario

Like Necuno said, the safest option is to back up your data on your HDD first before reformatting it to NTFS unless you live in a 1st-world country (Sigh).

Last night I took a huge risk by conversing it to NTFS without backing up data first because I had a couple of power outages in my area about 5 days ago. Phew.
