Help finding a game

A friend of mine is seeking assistance in finding a game he used to play - the following is his description:

There was this game i was playing back in 2003/2004... you were a robot (3D first player) almost like WaLL-E, but you had to build a space station and different structures whilst mining ore and collecting **** on the planet, and then you build robots to help you etc... and defend your base. I can't remember it's name and i've been searching my ass off but i loved it! I played if off a NAG cd.... it was a demo...

in space on a planet... as a robot... like WAL-E
and you go around collecting ore and stuff to build bigger structures
and eventually other droids to help you
i think you build the base up for humans that come later

Any ideas?

Additional description - now confirmed third person lol.

I mean like the robot is on the screen and you walk around
very similar to WALL-E game
but you had to build a base and move things and pick up things and mine stuff
and when you have enough stuff you can click on build and choose something to build
and it was 3D like Wall-e game

The space station part makes me think of Startopia, but I'm not sure it fits with the mining part.

I remember it. It wasn't such a huge mainstream game. You could get it off Steam and it was essentially a PhysX tech demo. Can't remember the name though...

in space on a planet... as a robot... like WAL-E Startopia takes place on donut-shaped space stations, no planets.
and you go around collecting ore and stuff to build bigger structures - No mining in Startopia
and eventually other droids to help you - No droids/robots apart from cleaning etc. in Startopia
i think you build the base up for humans that come later - No humans in Startopia either

Also not a third person perspective, it's a top-down real-time strategy game....

Edit: OP, give us more info, I don't think I've ever heard of this game, but I'm a triple black-belt in Google-fu.
