Hi all

I am searching for an oldish article on MyBB about selling a car through Webuycars and other such institutions. The article compared various companies that offered this type of service in SA.
Hoping someone can assist.
Thank you

I know this is a thread not an article and I might be on the wrong track but @Foxhound5366 had a thread about prices various dealers offered:

Trade-in assist

Yeah, like @maumau says, I recently sold my car through WeBuyCars after some pretty extensive experience getting offers from other dealers as well ... and WBC not only offered me the best deal, but also had a R30 000 trade-in assist offer if you bought one of their range of vehicles under that offer. It was exactly what I needed, so I made sure to only search their Platinum range of vehicles, limit my search to only low-mileage 2-year olds, and check the Dekra reports for a car which was completely clean (which gave me a shortlist of 2 cars in their entire Gauteng fleet rofl - luckily one of them was absolutely perfect for me). Since owning the car I've taken it for mechanical checks at its OEM dealer and also a full safety check at Supaquick, and it has come back squeaky clean. So yeah, it worked out for me, but your mileage might vary. All things being equal, I think the cars for sale at Weelee are a bit better quality generally, but if you take the care I did you can still find the gems in the WBC fleet: and the financial side was the best offer.

out of interest, if you plan on selling a car to WeBuyCars and let's say it's valued at R50,000 and that's what they'll give you... so a cheapy one, and you find a car on their website for R200,000. Now I know you can't negotiate that price with them, but since you are selling your car and buying another one through them, do they then give you a discount on the R200,000 one by any chance?

No, the WBC buyers will be quick to tell you that they’re separate from the sellers and there is no preferential deal to be struck if you plan to buy from WBC (apart from the R30 000 trade-in assist on selected models - they don’t advertise that widely). They even explained to me that this is because they run at a 10% profit margin, so they will list a car they buy for 10% above what they bought it. And to be fair, that’s exactly what they did with my car (I checked it on their site once they’d loaded it). So the story goes that they don’t have any wiggle-room for negotiation (I tried to get a better offer for my car and had some compelling reasons - but nope). I didn’t try negotiate the price down for the car I bought (because I just wanted the trade-assist instead on that vehicle) but I guess you could try that with them. They make a big story about how quickly they sell cars and how important it is to reserve any car you want to buy … and to be fair they really do sell a lot of cars every day lol. In my case I lodged a finance application via their website for the car I wanted to buy, and later that same day I’d already been approved and my car was reserved without me needing to pay the rather steep reserve fee (around R3000 as I recall), so I took a small gamble and it worked out in my favour.
