Help! Free my number from a Cell C contract?

My Cell C experience is so bad, even with 3-4 bars the whole day, I get more missed calls (they go straight to voicemail, I get an SMS, sometimes an hour or more later) than calls ringing on my phone. Phoning out is also hit-n-miss, but I have other options there (landline).

I can't carry on like this, people can't get hold of me half the time, and when they do, the call inevitably cuts out after 2-3 minutes.

So, how do I get my number freed from my current Cell C contract, onto a prepaid Cell C SIM? They can issue me a new Cell C number on the contract SIM, and I can port my prepaid number to another network. Anyone done this?

I feel the same way.

While I was with VC I dont think I had one dropped call a month.

With cell C I hardly ever end a call. It always drops. Call quality is so bad I end up using my telkom line to make calls instead of using the free minutes on my phone.
I'm paying a monthly subscription for a service that is basically unusable. Moving to cell C was a huge mistake.

I have PM'd the Cell C rep and he has given me a reference number, but that doesn't make my call quality any better. Everyone else I know that moved to cell C are experiencing exactly the same issues, so I have to assume that it is the general network quality and not some isolated incident with my phone or account.

There must me some way that we can get out of these contracts that simply do not perform as advertised! All the free minutes and data in the world is useless if you cant use it.

@Madman88:
I gave Cell C a prepaid trial towards the end of last year, and it was fine in Pretoria, and somewhat dodgy in Sandton. Then I went onto Vodacom prepaid and was spending 50% more per month. So I took out a Cell C contract earlier this year. Pretoria is still decent most of the time, but Johannesburg is unusable. (Never mind the non-existent data connections...)

I would love to cancel, but I'm not that optimistic. I will settle for getting my number back, on a prepaid setup on another network. The Cell C SIM can go into a cheap phone, and I'll use the minutes and data when it works. Or not.

In the same boat

Cell C please shed some light
What ginggs said - PM Cell_C and he can move your number onto a new prepaid SIM, then you can do what you want with it.

I don't know if you have to RICA it, but I did. Now waiting for the transfer...

And what about the remainder of the contract and the phone?

Well, I'm going to stick the contract SIM into a cheap phone, and use the minutes from time to time until the contract runs out. Not great, but cancelling isn't financially viable.

Honestly thats bullsht. Cell C have done nothing for you. You still have to pay them for a contract you cant use?

They are obligated to provide the service they agreed to in the contract or release me from it.

I am not trying to get out of the contract because of any other reason except for their seriously crap quality of service.
Provide the service or let me take my business elsewhere. I understand I will have to settle their phone, but I will not pay a single cent toward their contract fee's.

Let me know if you come right.

For now, I just need my number back, so I can function. Hence the thread title.

I don't want to sound too excited, since I'm still stuck with a Cell C contract, but I've got a new contract number, and my old number transferred to prepaid - thanks Cell_C!

Now if only they could fix the network...

Ah. I understand. :D

First prize for me would be if Cell C just delivered what they promise. Thats actually all I want.

Same here. Cell C is the cheapest by far. Even more so when you can't use the network ;-)

I hope they come right soon, and I'll transfer my number back.
