Ok guys, need some help here.

Here is the situation....

After 2months of waiting for an adsl line to be put in they eventually came last wednesday... Now as they arrived i had to go write an exam, so i told him exactly what needed to be done and i left. By the time i had got back, he was "finished" and had left.

I now got my modem wich i ordered aweek ago today. So happily plugged it in, awaiting the powers of adsl to be at my fingertips. But alas, it seems i have no adsl line (as the led does not light up) so i reached for my screwdriver and pranged the little box in the corner of my wall open. And i see that there are two wires (white, and blue) connected to the female connector. And two other wires(purpelybrown, and light green) not connected but just cut, lying there doing nothing.

Now my question...

Am I right in assuming the person did not infact "install" the line?

If so...

Is it possible for me to just cut a telefone line and connect the corrosponding colurs - however i see the colours do not match, (White, green, orange, brown - colours in a actual telepone line)

Could someone please advise?

Else im going to start frothing from the mouth and start hurting people around me. lol

Thanks

ICE

Hmmm, have you got a router or a modem ?

And, do you still get a signal from a standard telephone from your connection ?

There's only two wires going into my wall socket as well.

Yup, got a router... And i do get line with a proper telehone.

I was on the pcformat forums for awhile aswell, and i do remember you to bb_matt ;)

tks

@MaD - yup, play on the cs servers every weekend - and hopefully during the week if i can get this problem sorted out :(

eish, i know adsl on a comp - have no idea whats what with the harware...

Soz to do this to you bb, but how exactly do i do that?

One more thing - when i plug the modem in, is the adsl led suppose to light up constently? Cause it flashes briefly every so often, thats about it.

Is a Billion BiPAC 7202g btw.

tks again

I don't know where bridged mode will be on your router, but it's a common term which means run the router as a modem - that means running uprotected on the internet as you know.

It took me about 10 mins to get my router running in bridged mode via my IPCop box, but I pretty much intended that. I tried getting the router to hook up direct, gave up after a few mins and ran in PPPoE mode on IPCop.

Anywold, read your router manual and look for 'bridged' in the index. Make sure your running an updated ver of ZoneAlarm or equivalent.

Though I have the Billion 5102S, the setup should be similar (assuming you have a SAIX account). I prefer a routed connection rather than a bridged connection, because it's more secure, hopefully. So how do you do it?...

First you need to setup your LAN connection like this. Then hard reset your router to factory defaults by pressing the reset button for more than 6 secs. The ADSL line will sync in about 30 secs and the SYS light will stay lit. Don't worry about the flashing ADSL and PPP lights yet. Your PC should have been assigned an IP address by the router. You can check it in Status. You should be able to open the router's control panel by going to 192.168.1.254 in your web browser (username/password = "admin").

Click on Advanced Setup. Setup the LAN as follows . Then click on WAN. Route should be enabled. Then click on Profile1. It should be set up as follows . Now set up Time Zone, NAT, Remote Management and Internet Security. Click on Restart. Router resets, syncs and the PPP and ADSL lights should stay lit. All done! That'll be 1 Zim Dollar, please. :D

Hi ICE-VaPA

Goto http://192.168.1.254 (or what ever the router IP is now. I gave the default). Click on quick start. Your encapsulation should be PPPoE as default (that routed), if you want to change it to bridge, change encap. to "Pure bridge LLC".

You'll see that the interface will dynamically change. I.e. no place to enter ISP uname or password as it will be handled by you PPPoE client dialer.

I do however think you should stick with routed mode, more control that way.
