Over the last couple of weeks I've noticed that my tablet (SM-P905) takes a long time to charge. Sometimes it takes all night to charge. On Wednesday morning, it was only at 2% after charging all night. I took it to work with me and tried another charger which seems to work, so my guess is it was a charger fault.

At midday I tried to access my tablet using my normal password, but it didn't accept it. I know as surely as I know my face it's the correct password as I use the same password on another device which works. I tried several times and each time after the 5th attempt, it would countdown 30 seconds before allowing me to try again. I've seen some people online who have tried more than 150 times and never get the google log in option. I think it might be the same situation with me. I logged online for solutions and people suggested using my google email and password when prompted, but it never prompts me for this information.

During all this, the speaker icon popped up a few times and each time the tablet would unlock and re-lock by itself, but not long enough for me to do anything.

I reset my google password and my other devices picked this up and asked me to update them, but it didn't do anything for the screen lock password. I then tried ringing it and sending the lock and erase option via the online Device Manager (which is supposed to only wipe the admin options) but nothing happens. I also rebooted it under recovery, hoping to see an option that would allow me to remove the screen password, but nothing.

I've called MTN and Samsung and they are recommend taking it to the service centre and impression I'm getting is they will have to reset it back to the factory resetting, but I can't do this as this device holds my life and I haven't created a backup in months.

Anyone had any similar issues? Please help me find a solution other than factory reset.

Hi.

I have same tablet. lovely piece of equipment. Luckily never had that problem.
I updated my tablet to Android 5.0.2 about 2 months ago. It is even better now.
Maybe go on internet and see how to upgrade yours. It upgraded with all my data / settings intact.

Regards
Marius

Hopefully you've set up Android device manager, then you'll be able to logon to ADM using your browser lock the Tablet with a new password, and attempt to unlock it again with the new password, that should help I guess...

There are usually ways to do this stuff in download mode of the phone using ADB which requires either Linux (easy option) or Windows with ADB installed (pain).

Method 2 should potentially work.
If USB debugging is turned on then you shouldn't have a problem, if not things could be more difficult.

You will likely need someone who knows android quite well to help you. Someone who plays around with roms and kernels a bit.

Good luck

I agree; it's a brilliant device. I also upgraded roughly the same time you did, but I doubt I would be able to upgrade anything with it locked right now.

Yes I did. ADM says it was registered last year March, but the location is unavailable. Last online was 5 August. This feature works for my other devices, but not the tablet.

Tsk tsk tsk.....

I know. Very silly of me since I'm always reminding users to backup.

I see the option 'apply update from ADB' in recovery mode, but I haven't attempted it. Thanks, I'll try your suggestion.

Just be very careful, follow instructions line for line. Don't skip! If anything is different to what people say then stop immediately.

OMG! Finally! It's unlocked! I called all the mobile Samsung service centres in CT and all they told me was factory reset. Eventually I tried the online support chat service and after talking to three different people, I got through to a lady who suggested this website https://findmymobile.samsung.com

There's an option to unlock your screen and this worked for me. Bare in mind you need to have registered your device with Samsung for this to work.

Lesson for the day is to backup, backup, backup. I'm so glad I'll be sleeping tonight.

I hope this helps someone else someday.
