Hey all,

I'm an avid PC gamer CoD, BF and whatever other decent FPS is around... Thing is I am pulling my hair out at being on the Arse end of the SA Gaming world geographically. Its is so infuriating to have to play vs JHB & CPT players on their local servers (MWEB hosts CoD servers in those two Dat centers only).

Last night was the last straw. Playing against a Cape player on a Cape Server is damn near impossible if the player is even slightly semi-decent. By the time I see the opponent, and pull my trigger, he has moved on, hit reg is useless. The ping advantage is pathetically one sided. I cant compete against someone with a 30ms ping.

So please @MWEB ... get a Dat center running for Durban !! FFS Pleeeeez! All you local guys, hit MWEB on all the forums, Twitter etc, help me push this issue.

EDIT: BTW I'm not a k@k player by any means ;)

I have learned to compensate for ping, its what everyone who is not in JHB or CT does.
Some of the best BF3 players in the country play on terrible pings.
I dont play CoD so I cant really comment on how ping affects the game.

OP what is your BF3 ingame nick?
Never seen a SirFooK'nG in there :p

LoL ... I stopped playing a while ago - after about the 3rd 6gb update ;)

As for CoD, the system runs a built in lag compensation feature, but personally I think it sux balls. Problem is with the fast pace of CoD, especially BO2 (not a camper game, you got to run and gun your @ss off), ping is key!

As for ingame name, always SirFook or SirFook'ng. Clan [DoG]...

I've seen you around. I'm 375km away from JHB and I get 20ms pings WHEN my line is behaving itself. Lately, for the last few months, I get erratic ping spikes, which makes my game very shuddery and annoying - Telkom is supposedly working on this. I find it's not so much the high latency that is a disadvantage, as the inconsistent ping. I've noticed that even when my ping in on 20ms, players with +100 pings have an advantage due to the way BF3 compensates for different pings. When my ping sits in the high 100's I can pull off some amazing multi-kills, running through a room full of the enemy, and still survive.

I am not sure how other games handle the high pings, but CT is completely unplayable for me, so you're not alone.

This is where I expect to be...

I dont do under 1KD :( The top player, Frikkie5000 is good, I'll give him that. But his ping never goes +35ms

So what gives? 32ms ping for MWEB.co.za (Cape Town or JHB hosting?) If it is in Cape Town which I am sure it is, why does the in game ping sit at 60+ ?

I ran a variety of ping tests last night. What I did was took note of the Server IP I was playing on. Tabbed out of game and did a continuous ping while I played (I run dual monitor so was able to watch the ping as I played). While playing the ping was all over the place, with lag spikes at the exact time that I had lag within the game. The in game ping monitor reported 65 - 75ms Avg for a CPT server and about 45 - 55ms for a JHB server. When I quit the game and pinged the servers again, they returned fantastic results of sometimes more than half of what it reports while in game? No spikes were noticed and the pings were constantly good. Something like 19ms for JHB and 30ms for CPT. Why then in game is the ping so vastly different?

EDIT: Feedback on the Ping differences from in game vs cmd prompt. cmd prompt bypasses the lag compensation system of the game ...

Could be wrong here, but when you use normal /ping you send small bits of data. But when your playing BF you send way more data over your line = increased ping

You might want to send MwebGuy a pm to direct his attention to this thread, might speed things up a bit :)

@StoneCold, he is following it ;) as well as the MWEB Game Zone guys... My Ping is fine, I know that, the Black Ops lag compensation is not doing a proper job. Geographical distance from Durbs to CPT makes it harder to play on a CPT server with CPT players. IMO all servers should be centralized in at least JHB... lesser of 2 evils.

Probably Zero chance of Durban based servers, as the GMZ guys have said, there is no MWEB Data Center here :( If there was and all you JHB & CPT guys were forced to play on a Durban based server ... you would hate me :D poon fest delux
