Help: How to join a telephone line?

Hi all.

Started with renovations two days ago and whilst digging the foundation trench the guys chopped me telephone line off..

Logged a call with Telkom to come and fix and spike to them, but this morning received a fault resolved noticed without Telkom being here. Logged a call again, but dibt expect them to rock up anytime soon.

So no VDSL and the withdrawal symptoms are starting to show in the whole family.

I now want to repair it myself, but have hit a stubling block almost immediately. See picture posted. Easily enough the color wires goes together, but there is 3 white wires as well.

So, is the whites used and if is there a way to check which one goes with which white the other side of the cable?

Strip the outer insulation back - carefully. The wires should be in twisted pairs, then you'll know what to do.

Just don't use your teeth to strip the individual wires - ring voltage will give you a good buzz.

I first tried to solder the wires then realized that the solder I have doesn't work for coper wire... Some context, I have cheap soldering kit and only used it twice before.

Then proceeded a very crude twisting of the coper wires and taping it up one by one....

Happy to report that my VDSL is up and running till at least till a expert can do it properly...

Seems like I'm loosing sync at times, but at least it's working for now.
