My friend's BB was stolen last week. They broke into their flat and took a few things, amongst all that was her BB Bold. Today, we notice another girl's profile pic on my friend's profile on BBM. Surely it can be traced? What should I do? The police came to collect the picture, but my faith in them is ZERO! The flat they broke in to has security camera footage, and even though my friend and them looked at the footage, the picture of the guy breaking in was not very clear. But the police did not even ask to look at the footage or take finger prints! So I don't think they going to do much about this picture and the BBM pin.

Anything I can do?

Thanks!

It's not just the phone - the flat was broken into and lots of irreplaceable items were stolen. We would like to track the thief! I don't think we should sit back and say - oh well, its gone, let's move on. It's ours! We work very hard for it - and its not acceptable for someone to come into my home and take my stuff! If we don't change our attitudes and start fighting back, we will be the losers.

If you have no faith in the police then in a little more low tech response: you could start doing your own investigative work. Show the profile pic around (all the social networks) asking if anybody knows who the person is. Also you could "rebefriend" the person on BB and find out exactly who the person is.

Let me guess .. you voted ANC didn't you?

My friends BB was stolen and the new owner was in Kenya... Kiss the phone goodbye if that happens

Great news! Phone was recovered! Just came from the police station! We went with to the girls work! Was awesome!

Moral of the story? Never give up! :)

How did u track it down. And in future I suggest you install Blackberry Proctect. Its a free app which you can find on the BB app world. It allows you to track your phone online, wipe its momery remotelly, memory back-up etc. Works fine on my Bold

I think with things like Blackberry Protect for BB's, Lookout and AVG for Android, and MobileME for iOS phones are going to be more and more left alone when thief's carry house hold contents away...

Gratz on getting the phone back, did they recover any of the other goods?

Sorry for going missing in action after my last update, but had urgent work to take care of.

We didn't recover any of the other stolen goods. But the good news is that through tracking the people who bought the phone, they were able to identify the guy buying the stolen goods and selling it. He is currently in jail. It seems as if he gets the low life beggars to do the stealing, but that's all speculation at this stage.

All started with the girl who got the phone as a gift from her boyfriend, not knowing the BBM is not a general chat room, and started chatting to my friend's contacts. It was easy enough to trick her into giving us info so that we could track her down. :)

Well done on catching the crook!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And for getting the phone back!!
My stepson had a BB stolen that was also used by the new "owner" and their picture was displayed. Problem was the picture was of three guys so we din't know which one was the new "owner". They also must have known that they could be tracked and soon we couldn't "see" them anymore. Is there any other way to track the phone through the BB PIN if one hasn't installed the tracking software before the phone is stolen??

Friend of mine's BB 8520 dissapeared yesterday  Apart from hoping the "thief" starts chatting on BBM, any other ways to track it? And no, she didn't have BB protect installed.
