My BMW E36 had some ignition problems and its been parked for more than a year now and I thought of reviving it. The mechanic who is looking at it says the problem is the ignition sensor. I called the local BMW dealer and they told me there is nothing called an electronic sensor. The part I want is where the ignition switch plugs into. I need to know the actual name so I can order the part. The previous mechanic who looked at the car lost the thing so I dont have a sample now.

Give me the last 7 digits of your VIN

Should be 2 letters and 5 numbers EG AB12345

PS: Telling us were you live will help.

I have the program agent use to find parts for BMW's.

So im going to try see if i can find what he is talking about and provide a part number.

Thats the pic I got from the BMW dealer. What I want is that part where #3 ( I believe that's the ignition switch) plugs into.

on a corsa, just below the key setup, fits a little box, witch pick up the key sense, making sure it is the correct key, and that is called a electronic sensor.
I think it is called a transponder or similar.

It is an ignition switch backset connector. Normally soldd as a whole assembly with part no 3 attached. 3 is moulded and the connector at the other end has one-way brass pins inside a clip-on connector

Thanks

the most common name for that part is the ignition loom, or ignition harness with loom
