The network is connected to a server and to adsl through the same hub, and the one computer can only access the one at a time either the internet with or the server !!!

Here is the settings on the network for that computer

ip >> to get onto the internet it is 10.0.0.99
but to get onto the server it is 169.254.184.99
subnet M 255.255.255.0
defualt GW 10.0.0.2

replying to myself to keep this up on the new post soz,
please anything even if it is tonight.

Is your server set to give DHCP?
that 169.* address is a automatic private address, happens when the network card can't get an IP from dhcp server.

DHCP is not enabled on your router, hence the APIPA address 169.x.x.x.
Your subnet mask does not fit your class A IP address range, class A IP subnet masks are 255.0.0.0 unless you've selected a subnetted IP range on your router.

Manually assign the machine an IP and for a quick fix 10.0.0.150 mask 255.0.0.0 gateway 10.0.0.2 or use the class C mask if it works for you, if you do change, change all the subnet mask

change your server to 10.0.0.1 or something in the same range

Last Q quick

What does it mean if you put the DHCP on Relay ?

what should I change the router to then? and why would that work, becuase it has a similar number it looks more friendly to the computer?

else all the above is done, any other possiblities?

Just want to say thanks for the help, and if any one else has this problem..
I had to change the modem to a simiar ip as the server has.

:)
