I am looking at a new laptop. My requirements are:
*SSD 256GB would be ok, 512gb a bonus
*4 or 6GB Ram
*Full HD Screen
*Good Battery Life
*Light as possible
*i3 probably good enough - only use it for web browsing, streaming, Excel - no games or video editing

I have completely lost touch on CPU technology so I have no idea what is good for my needs.

I found this Acer Aspire 3 on special at IC for R6999 - is this the best bang for buck I will get for sub R7k or can I do better?

You need it for anything specific or just general browsing & youtube & stuff?

W10 and O365 uses a lot of resources already...and if you're using Chrome, it's even worse.

i3's become glorified calculators when using the above, so rather get an i5 with 8Gb RAM.

ALSO: try and buy something that has an onsite warranty or that you can upgrade to such. Acer support is generally collect and return, which takes minimum 5 -7 working days, and if that's still managed by a retail intermediary, you'll wait 2 weeks.

i3 8th gen is more than enough for your needs .. going ballsdeep on an i5 is pointless unless its a 7th gen

but as mentioned.. adding chrome into the mix, you want 8gb ram

PM Flashgear and see if he has anything in your budget.
