I want to create a wireless hotspot using my 3G as an internet connection and using my Netgear router.

So far:

  1. Connected my pc to my Netgear router with a lan cable
  2. Bridge the Local area connection( dont know if this is the right way?)see pic
  3. Allow pc's to connect through the internet through the MAXIS connection (see pic)

Ok so then trying to connect with my laptop through the wireless connection

A connection did appear(its gone now) Netgear-3g, i tried to connect through it, but only to get a "unable to connect"

Any help please?

You are correct to share the connection in windows 7, on the router you have to set the dhcp to use 192.168.137.2-255

Your computer will have the address 192.168.137.1, set the router dhcp to that range above and the default gateway to 192.168.137.1 and it will work.

:oThanks, but can you tell me how:o

This is more or less what i did

Under LAN IP setup,

Router IP address 192.168.137.2
Subnet 255.255.255.0
Use router as DHCP use range 192.168.137.3 to 192.168.137.255

You will have to set the default gateway to 192.168.137.1 in one of the other options for the internet access

or alternately set the default gateway on your laptop to 192.168.137.1 instead of the router's default dhcp address of 192.168.137.2

(All of this just depends on what ip address the computer with internet access uses, could be 137 or another number but it will always be 192.168.x.1)

Thanks for the help thus far, added some rep btw :D

But i am a noob and struggling here, but also learning ;)

Ok so this was my first step

And the lastly if i want to connect my laptop then should i change the IP of the wireless connection(on the laptop) to 192.168.137.1 and the same for the gateway

Why dont you download Connectify? This lets you use you Wi-fi card in your laptop/pc as a wi-fi hotspot and can share almost any internet connection.

You set the default gateway on the laptop, under the wifi lan options. Leave the Vodacom connection alone (except for the sharing option)

You can set the laptop up to have a static ip, set the ip address to 192.168.137.6 subnet to 255.255.255.0 and default gateway to 192.168.137.1

PC with internet IP: 192.168.137.1

Laptop IP: 192.168.137.18 and the gateway is 192.168.137.1(PC's IP)

It sees the network and when i connect, it asks for the security key, after typing it I connect, but then get the following:

Windows was unable to connect to Netgear-3G

Just check that the wifi is using the lan dhcp ip ragne. Not sure what that error is

LOL, I just realized that the Netgear-3g connection i pick up is my neighbors :o:o, thus it seems that my Laptop is not picking up the network, except the routers network that don't have any internet access.

I don't know anymore.............:cry::(

Do I have to bridge a connection somewhere?

I got it working at last!:D:D Thanks for all the help koeksGHT.

What I did:

Disable dhcp

Set the routers gateway to 192.168.137.1

Main PC IP to 192.168.137.1

Everything else on, auto obtain IP

Shared connection and voila
