I'm stuck, i can get any one of these phones with my contract upgrade next month.

From what i have read the 9900 seems to be more robust but the 9790 has a better camera WITH Autofocus.

My uses will be heavy internet browsing, email, BBM, whatsapp and making lots of calls.

Which would you go for?

iPhone 5
:D

I wouldn't go for either. Android or Win8 mobile all the way.

Is Blackberry the only handset you would consider?

There is still good reason to stay with Blackberry -if you want fixed cost Internet and only need it for basic use - email etc.
If you are going to use it for heavy internet browsing as mentioned in OP, there are much better smartphone choices, but data costs have to be carefully considered.

I have a 9780 and am reasonably happy with it. I will change to Android or Windows 8 phone next year when contract is up, as I hate the slower internet speeds, small screen, and want to be able to use good smartphone apps that will assist my work. Concerned about data costs though.

I have a 9900 and the battery life is less than stellar - like have to charge daily, but not as bad as I have heard iPhone's battery life to be.

Why not wait until next year when the new BB's come out ?

Heavy browsing with a BB? you must be a very patient person?

9900(secondary phone) - I have it and have no problems at all
My brother has the 9790 and has endless problems - constant freezing, random restarts etc

If you have to get a BB ASAP then go for the 9900

bloody stupid BB! browsing has been insanely slow for a couple of weeks now. thankfully i still get my android fix else i would have been insane already...

Sony Xperia S.

If you insist on a BB, wait untill next year BB10 models rather. BB6 and BB7 devices will be left for dead when it launches. If u must, get a second hand 8520 to carry you until early next year. My 2c

I have a 9790 and no complaints. Upgraded to OS7.1 and its got media server as well.

I don't advise you take the 9900, battery life is ridiculous and that alone spoils the entire experience.

Besides, the 9790 is quite slim and smart, only problem I've had (twice) is when someone calls and while speaking, the touchscreen calls that person while on a call with them, funny. Otherwise, excellent phone with great camera and big upgrade from my 9300.

Most relevant post yet.

But I would say keep your current BB chuck and MTN card in it and load R10 BB option.
Get an Android phone as your new Phone and load 300mb for R45 from cell c + download opera mini and you would be sorted

Go with the 9790. My wife has the 9900 and the battery life on that device sucks. Its even worse than my 9810
