Okay so I'm trying to up FPS in PUBG and I've read it's fairly CPU intensive, so I want to boost my CPU and see what happens.

Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3 REV 1.3 (F10 BIOS)
i5-2500k
16GB G Skill DDR3-1600

Stock @3.3GHz

3.7GHz

Haven't been able to get it higher than that, but this is my first time trying to OC in about 8 years, so of course everything is different now.

help?

It used to run stable at 4.2Ghz 24/7...it could have probably done more but I was conservative with voltage.

will check for settings when I get home.

Check your motherboard utilities disc for GIGABYTE's EasyTune and see if you can overclock it higher using the software. The software handels the voltages.

If its CPU intensive then you should consider upgrading to a newer generation (newer and better architecture) CPU, I'd say at least a 4th gen.

But of course that would mean you'll need a new motherboard as well.

The type of CPU cooler makes a difference as well.
What are you using?
Thermalright Ultra 120 I believe. With a fan.

I'll try EasyTune, see where we get.

Yea, I'm OCing as not in a position to spend cash at the moment.

Easy with a decent mobo and cooler, mine is air cooled.

Would you kindly share you settings? Voltage and such...

The CPU is still good compared to the latest. Only ~20% slower than a Skylake 6700K up to 4 threads.

I already had to tweak things quite a bit just to get to the best memory timings. But my turbo speed is far over 4.2GHZ as far as I remember... so I prefer leaving it like that. Will check and share.

Ill have to check when im home, they are written in a book.

I dialed it down a bit because my study is tiny and has poor cooling, ambient air was about 30-32C.

Not the ideal ambience I guess.

Thanks, I'd appreciate it.

I don't think I have any overrides on my P8P67 motherboard.

I just set my BIOS to use an XMP profile DDR3-1600 9-9-9-24 1.65V. (set up for dual channel)
Bus is set to 100, 42X turbo multiplier and PLL overvoltage enabled.

CPUZ gives a bench of 1589/6152. Just so you have something to compare to.

Well using Easytune, it's stably running at ~3.9GHz, gets up to 68 on P95.

Think I'll leave it there.

One thing though, the RAM modules are DDR-2133, but the board detects and runs them at 1600.

Any ideas why?

With Sandy Bridge, the IMC is rated for 1600, and overclock reliably (much of the time, but not always) to do 1866 RAM

Okay I have it booting at 4.1GHz (4.073GHz - 101.82 x 40)

Currently doing a P95 Torture test to see how it does. Temps at 75'C so far. Hot, but still okay and certainly no game is going to push all 4 cores this way.

EDIT:

Okay I'm getting 1536/5968 at ~4.1.

EDIT:

Now doing a torture test at 4.133GHz. (100.81*41)
Temps are still okay, might leave it here, or back the core to 100 and leave it at a flat 4.1.
1562/6038 in P95 (while downloading in Chrome)

EDIT:

Crashed, so scaled back to 4.1GHZ (minor adjustment, but scaled back on Base Clock).

Also OC the GPU from 765/1125 to 800/1200. Ran Heaven, got 38.3FPS / 964 points at 1920x1080.

Temps all stayed healthy, so time to test a game.
