Hi.

I am due for an upgrade, currently have Nokia 5800 which has served me very well and I would not even be considering an upgrade if I wasn't offered one. The thing I like most about it is the Garmin Mobile I have installed on it, I might not use it every day but it has been damn usefull on many occasions.

I would like to step away from Nokia & Symbian, getting bored with them.

So.. what alternatives are there that come with good GPS software included (that doesnt need stream maps of the internet).

Phone will be used for calls, SMS, MP3 & GPS so needs to have a good battery aswell.

Was keen for the Desire HD but it looks a little big for my liking.

Budget not really a problem.

Thanks..

The HTC Desire Z could be right up your alley, (downloadable maps etc)

but there has not even been a mention of this phone coming to SA.

Desire HD is a great phone, i assume so because i have the ordinary Desire and it's the best phone i've ever had, and i've been through quite a few. I jumped ship from symbian to android and have never looked back.
You may wanna check one out in real life and hold it in your hand before you decide it's too big.

Good phone too. in comparison with the HD, the upside is the keyboard, the downside is a 5mp camera vs 8 on the hd, as well as 200mhz less CPU speed and 64mb less of ram. Im gonna assume Brawler isn't too interested in a keyboard seeing as he's used to a 5800
Either way Brawler go with android :D

Yep - Samsung galaxy - you will have to buy navigation (once off R300) but it's fantastic.

Can someone please comment on GPS on Android?

I would love a hardware keyboard to.

Do blackberries not have GPS software?

i prefer phones with longer battery life as i hate it when my phone dies in the middle of the day & don't like having to plug it in every day.

I believe with black berry you get garmin software free for a year. Or at least that's what someone i know just found out with BB9800.

BB9800 comes with garmin for the duration of the contract (24 months) on mtn. On vodacom you'll get vodafone sat nav.

My better half also has 5800 and is considering getting a BB torch. She can only upgrade next May. Is the torch available at a reasonable cash price in CT. Imho garmin is better than Vodafone satnav but I stand to be corrected. Would I be able to get garmin on cash price and use BB on a Vodacom contract Sim?
