Help me plan a Kruger Park trip

So, SANParks now has an online availability checker. How is it that the popular camps seem to be fully booked until the end of August next year? I thought you were only allowed to book 11 months in advance?

I think what I'll do is see if we can get some agreement with everyone about where to stay and when to go. It looks like it will have to be in September 2016, if we want to actually have some choice.

I can't believe that the park is so popular, you need to book a year in advance. Its madness.

My current thinking is:
Biyamiti 2 nights
Lower Sabie 2 nights
Satara 3 nights

EDIT: Is September the most popular month? I thought July would be.

Welcome to before 2010 (or even earlier)... ;)

Anything with a school or public holiday should be grabbed well in advance (August 9th 2016, the Tuesday is a public holiday, so with a Monday off its a 4 day weekend and that's why 6 to 9th is nearly all booked out), especially in the south.

I don't know what you mean by fully booked, lots of place available outside the 6th to 9th...

Sadly due to hassles of overbooking and other unmentionable little tricks, it's perhaps best to start your planning at the online booking site.
Have a map in front of you. Have alternate camps marked ( check travel distances)
Check the types of accomodation at each camp. Ie know what a B2 or a C4 is.( beds/ kitchen etc)
Be ready to make snap decisions. Take it if it's marked as available.
Remember these bookings change hourly online. You can fine tune later.

I guess I'm also worried about September being crazy busy even if we do actually get a booking, especially in the South.

But I suppose that is unavoidable - its never really "quiet" except in the North.

Current plan is to give everyone until the 1st of October to respond, and then book. Booking will be September 10th and 11th at Biyamiti, 12th and 13th at Lower Sabie, 14th to 16th at Satara.

Great advice, we each have our ideal itinerary, every else has one too. I think this will be your best bet.
 
I booked. 4 nights in Satara, then 3 nights in Lower Sabie.

I'm actually very irritated with how SANParks handles the bookings. You're not allowed to book more than 11 months in advance, so I thought I will be able to book on the 1st of October. Nope, can't do it. Can't select September 2016 yet. So I think I might have to wait until the 10th of October.

Anyway, I decided to check today. Half of the stuff is gone already. I'm like, WTF? Firstly, I had no idea it was THIS popular. Second, why could I not book yesterday?
