hear is my prob..
i have a i burst desktop modem , now what i wanna do is connect it to a linksys wan router. (model-Linksys WRT54G/GL/GS) no prob connecting it . but when i brows internet it just says "looking up site bla bla bla" when i go into the router and click on status it says there connected and all but "its not"

So please what can i do??:confused:

a wan router helps "dial" the connection, so basically creates the PPPoE connection, so did you enter all your username and password into your linksys? another thing is your internet connection settings, you need to point default gateway to your linksys as well as primary dns.

Ok i put some pics up to show... http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/album.php?albumid=419

A) setup your router IP as the default gateway in you PC's TCP/IP settings
B) use the DNS settings obtained via the Iburst connection in your router for the DNS in your PC's TCP/IP settings

that should work. apply same rule to all PC's connecting to iBurst via the router.

no joy

thanks to both of you but non of the above works my browser keeps on telling me waiting for "www.google.co.za"

does that help you to help me??

i've got exactly the same problem with a D-Link DIR-615 router.

can't get anything to come up, but logging into the router it says it's connected to the net.

anyone?

Silly question.... have you changed the MTU on the router? Should be set to 1392 if I rem correctly... had issues waaaaay back when was still with them... a netgear router tho', nothing would work... all settings were ok... changed the MTU eventually to 1392 and voila! Worked for 3 years before Vodacom bought into the pie and trashed everything.

lol - that's just what i've been playing with now.

and it works!!!!

but...

i'm using mtu of 1352, what's the diff's?

1392 is for normal internet (reccomended by iBurst) the other setting (not sure - neva use it) is for VPNs. Kilobitsperyear was dead on with that. also had that problem once, loaded DD-WRT on my router, forgot to set MTU, sites were hit and miss. some worked others didnt....

okay i've changed it to 1392. don't see much of a difference to be honest. but i'm glad it's all working again.

thanks very much for everyone's input. greatly appreciated.

Hey All

You can indeed fiddle with the MTU... I found that towards the end of my stint with iBust, I had to set it around 1290 ish in order to reduce latency and time-outs. 1392 is the iBust standard setting. Play around if you start getting time-outs and such. I think that there is another iBust MTU thread around here somewhere??? Anyway, if you are running XP, you can also set Windows MTU to match the routers with TCPOptimizer, Vista you can do it with a command line... if you search MyBB you will find these threads from some time back... I will see if I can post links here, time allowing...

But, usually, 1392 works OK.
