How do you transfer files off a ps3 ?

I have some movies etc i want to put on my pc, i have the network cable etc all setup and running it off a ps3 software (java) i forget the name now but it's a common one.

The network picks up my pc on the ps3 and vice versa but when i try to copy form the ps3 it says connect external hdd or something. basically it doesn't recognise my computers hdd when copying ... any advice ?

You can only copy to a PS3 via network. To copy off you need to plug in some form of external storage.

AFIAK you can only copy files to removable media, not over a network.

i tried plugging in my ext hdd which picks up but still i can't copy to it.

must it be formatted to fat32 instead of ntsc perhaps ?

Yes, the PS3 only recognises FAT.
