Hey guys, was walking around yesterday... impulse buy fever hit and I picked up a black DS lite. I have wanted a portable gaming system for a long time and in the end I chose Nintendo... I love the little machine. Well made, plays great but now I am more paranoid than a mother with a new born.

I want to protect both the screens and I have seen many great screen protectors on U.S and U.K sites. Are there any retail outlets in SA that sell very high quality DS screen protectors? If so who are they!? If not, how do you protect your screen.

Also how tough is that touch screen, I am so scared it scratches hehehe it’s my first hand held since the original game boy, Tetris anyone! :) So let me know share some ideas I know the consumer base is small in SA the is to be expected considering what a horrible job we are doing in terms of marketing and so on. Give me some advice!

toys r us have screen protectors and cases. where do you live? a bigger toys r us should have stock. i've had my DS lite for about 9 months and have not had any damage to any of my screens. that is without using a screen protector. i use a customised sock to hold my DS.

Kinda off the subject but I have a PSP, to be honest haven't used it much, but I here the DS lite is pretty cool. Is it worth swopping?

There are so many threads on that topic within the great web it’s not even funny. But what I find is the common feelings is if you like hacking and tinkering with your machine the PSP does a great job of emulation of all kinds. Nes, Snes, Arcade even Game boy advanced! Now all legalities aside the commercial game library for both handhelds are growing. The psp can now play PS1 games which gives it a huge game selection, the DS can play both DS games as well are Game Boy Advance games, of which there are well over 2000.

The innovation factor on the DS is rather nice; the touch screen lets makers of the games include some interesting ways to interact with many of the titles. And this year looks to be a great year for both of the handhelds. Some really interesting stuff coming out, I like the handheld platform, I don’t always want to be in front of a TV or PC screen, sometimes I like to chill in my bed and play games.

I really feel they both offer great experiences if you like the mobile platform, if you don’t then it might take a really great game to warm you up to it, and you might never like it. But I would say it’s not a matter of which is best but which you have and which games you buy. If you can, have both, like so many things in life you live once, and thus if you love gaming what’s to stop you, well besides if you are broke like myself because you spend all your money on gaming goods.
