I had to upgrade to sp2 because the symbian sdk requires it and i wanna code apps for mobiles/pdas, so i upgraded through the windows update thing rather than using a xp pro sp2 disk i have lying around (when installing that on boxes before i had no problems)

first thing i did was use the patch to change the number of concurrent pending tcp connections from 10 to 1024 and then i connected to the net

i could open myadsl in firefox and then suddenly it stopped responding, no internet apps worked but i could ping, so i disabled the windows firewall (which is a piece of **** anyway) and hey presto everything worked again (although it seems a tad sluggish)

but now after i connect, for about 2 minutes everything works and then nothing does at all, if i click a link firefox doesn't even attempt to open it, its almost like i have no internet connectivity and yet I can ping

that little LAN icon in my system tray (you know the 1mbps iburst one) has a little yield sign next to it and it says limited or no connectivity, when i right click theres a repair option, and when i click that it says 'Renewing your IP address' and eventually fails to do so

under connection status in the local area connection thing it says 'the problem occured because the network did not assign a network address to this computer'

does anyone know how to fix? I just want it to be like it was before i installed the update

I ignored that, and told it not to tell me again. I actually have an internal IP set on that card now. No more problems.

Did u do any antivirus/spyware scan before u installed sp2 ? As far as my knowledge when upgrading to sp2 it takes the spyware and virus and makes it part of your windows installation and I know that this does create havoc ! Have you tried recreating you iburst setup or reinstalling the drivers ?

its a vanilla version of windows so no anti anything yet, the iburst connection was set up before the upgrade though (because I had to download it), I'm gonna try make a new iBurst connection now, if i could only remember where to get the drivers, hmmmm

(side note: i have had to recconect 5 times in 5 minutes, i connect then its fine for a minute and then bam, everythign just dies)

Can't you use Windows Restore or is it a fresh copy of Win Xp.

you know what, screw it, microsoft arent worth this much time and effort, i'ma install from disk while i work in linux, if it doesn't work then i'll just get code warrior and use sp1

nope, but its more than firefox, aim, icq, gmail notifier, outlook, everything :(

ok. Just wondering, because the same thing happened to me (all internet apps down but can still ping) and it was because of some bug in Firefox 1.0.4 which they haven't fixed yet, so I just downgraded to 1.0.2 and it started working again.

It doesn't look like this is the same problem you're having though

cant be firefox, I am running sp2 with firefox 1.0.4 since it came out and have no problems what so ever, but I am using the pcmia card and that might make a difference to it.

Slim, what u can try if u have the sp2 on disc, is reinstall windows then sp2 and then create the connection. Might work this way.
