I need some help with the MTU setting to use on my router.
What is everyone else using and what value will give me the best ping time?

Should I do the ping -l -f xxxx test? And find the highest value that doesnt fragment?

Does anyone know of any other tips and tweaks to speed up ping time?

Nope

nope - it's the best way to test a ping. Your "ping time" or latency can be due to lots of reasons, but of you can get 1500 bytes through then your connection should be fine.

Just remember that ICMP is put into a low priority QOS queue by most ISPs, so it's not really a test of anything.
