Ok, looks like I need a Wireless AP for this, but it is pricey, someone please let me know my options :-

Scenario:

Moving in as a lodger in a place in Colliers Wood. They have a 1meg ADSL line with a standard ethernet router - no wireless.

I have a laptop with wireless card.

What is the cheapest way to hook up wireless to this router ?
Is a wireless AP the thing to buy ?

Just want to know, not entirely sure - seems completely logical to me that this is what I need, just need confirmation because my brain is all over the show lately, I'm so busy trying to live here.

bb_matt - what is the distance. if it is within normal range eg 20-50m
depending on walls. then get a stock standard gigabyte AP or something of the sorts cheap and nasty.

get an access point, even 802.11b will do fine.

alternatively, convince them how old fashioned a wired router is, and get them to go 50/50 on this

with you.
with delivery, you should both be £20 lighter, but you can tell them how much faster it will be, and how the evil nasty hackers wont be able to get "in" anymore (mention identity theft and terrorist too, just for good measure)

even cheaper, buy a usb 802.11g adapter (about £15) and shove it into their pc, set up internet connection sharing with the wireless cards in adhoc mode and you will be good to go (will only work if their pc is on the whole time.

werner, but then you have to be dependant on their pc being switched on. ICS also isnt the greatest of tehnology, gives lots of problems, and isnt very reliable (trust me on this one, i suffered with it for 3 years).

I would also just recommend a cheap AP, which would solve all problems.

The cheapest access points I have been able to find have been @ jump.co.za. I would recommend this one http://www.jump.co.za/Products/Product.asp?ProductCode=PR120330 as it can be used as an access point or wireless router.
