Hi everybody. as subj says.
I need some guidance with my new server setup.
WHAT I HAVE:
a newly setup File server running OpenSuse 13.1 with Xen 4.3
SAMBA 4
single user.
so user exist as of now are root and ME
I have a root folder "/MediaShare" where I mount all non system related drives.
so all HDD that will host the data for me will be mounted here and used in SAMBA for sharing
Data stores are: (I will skip the system drives containing "/" and "/home") all drives use BTRFS by default.
1 x 2T HDD BTRFS (total avail. space 2T) Mount-point: "/MediaShare/DataStore1"
2 x 3T HDD BTRFS RAID-1 (total avail. space 3T) Mount-point: "/MediaShare/MEDIA1"
Reason for adding "1" at the end of the mount-point is that I might/will have other related drives added later and want to see what I am using where.
in a nutshell at this moment the DataStore1 drive is a garbadge dump kind of place. it holds all/catch all space. I want to do some segregation and separation later to use some of the dedicated drives/mounts for specific storage needs. like have a DataStore2 for Backups etc.
also I will add disks to the file system later and add some raid level as well so I would want to know which mount point I want to use for that.
the DataStore1 have folders:
/FileDump
/UserFiles (to be used for storing peoples files. will have dedicated folders for my wife, daughter, myself and any other I see fit )
-- /UserName
-- / Any other needed public folders and files
/Some other fodler
the MEDIA1 have folders:
/AppShares
-- /ISO
--/Setups
--/Others
/MediaShare
-- /Movies
-- /TV
--/Pictures
--/Kids
I use Samba to share the "AppShares" and "MediaShare" folders as apps and media respectively
with all access permission for any user (777) on all folder and subfolders
NO WHAT I NEED HELP WITH:
I am setting up a Ubuntu VM to use as my main multimedia processing hub.
it will run SABNZBD, Sick Beard, Couch Potato, Headphones (maybe) ,Transmission or Deluge
a MythTv Backend and/or Plex Server
so my question is what would be the optimum functional setup for this configuration?
I mean what users/groups I MUST have on the host(the Dom0) to share this data properly
most of it should be accessible from any PC on my local LAN (I now have a mixed env. win and linux)
I have an HTPC (rebuilding with either MythTv or XBMC client. maybe Plex but not sure at the moment)
and eventually I will be adding an outside access from the Internet via ownCloud VM or something like that.
what users I need in my Ubuntu VM and how do I pass this shares into it for all the apps be able to work with my folders?
where do I put folders needed for all the apps mentioned above and what would be the best structure for this kind of setup?
I have searched the web and can not find any info that looks like it would work. each guide and how-to suggests it's own layout and format. I though maybe I can ask here and pick the best solutions suggestion from a single place, as it makes it easier to compare them.
