Hi Everyone,

I am new here. This forum is great for people like myself who know very little about
technology.

I am buying a PC for moderate gaming. Nothing fancy although it should run the new games
decently.

I would really appreciate advice on the following:

1. Which processor should I go with?
2. Which motherboard is appropriate?
3. Which Graphics card should I get?
4. What power supply would be needed?
5. Where should I buy from?

My budget is R 5,800 for the four components mentioned above. Please help.

At your budget point i would suggest the following.
1. i3 or even a dual core pentium
2. dont bother with fancy motherboard
3. Spend every last cent after hdd and ram on vga card, keeping around R800 for psu.
4. depends on which card you got, at least a 650w psu which should fit into the R800.

Hi Kawak,

Thanks for your advice.

I am revising my budget and now I am looking at spending a total of R 8,000 for a complete tower (all the hardware).

What would you recommend?

I would recommend:

AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz @ R1698
ASUS M5A97 R2.0 ATX @ R1101
PowerColor Radeon HD7850 2GB GDDR5 @ R2249
XFX Core Pro 550W @ R663
Total: R5711

Buying the parts from a combination of Wootware and Rebeltech is the best bet. Do you also need memory for your rig?

Well, with that on the cards, I'll just add onto my list...

Corsair Carbide 200R @ R580
G.Skill ARES Blue DDR3-2133 8GB @ R859
Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB @ R631
ASUS DRW-24D3ST @ R190
Total: R7971

Hi Wesley,

Yes I also need memory.

Thanks for your advice.

i5 3570k - R2600
ASROCK Z77 PRO4-M - R1200
8GB 1600mhz ram - R500
corsair cx500 PSU - R600
HD 7870 TLE - R2800
Corsair obsidian 350d - 1200
total = R8900

I wouldn't buy any other CPU than a 3570k, and the best value for money GPU atm the 7870 TLE. Asrock makes great mother boards and the obsidian 350d is an awesome case. :-)

Great advice , I am also in th market for a gaming pc but I need one that can play high end or at least games like BF3 etc

You also missed out the hard drive, the DVD drive, and you're R900 over budget. LOL. OP wasn't asking for anything fancy and that's fancy.

My list applies to you as well, if you're in the same budget :)

Maybe go for a cheaper case and a cheaper cpu. Then you can get a 1tb hdd plus a 24gb ssd. Esquire has some really nice looking cheap cases. Fact is. Ssd speeds up systems in ways you can actually feel, much more then cpus do.

DVD drive isn't neccessary and I'm sure he has an old hard drive floating around. You don't want to buy cheap components unless they're so cheap it doesn't actually matter... but if you're spending a lot of money then you don't want something that's almost good but not quite good enough.

You really should ask first, though. What if OP buys the majority of his games on disk? What if he doesn't have a hard drive? What if he has a PC, but is stuck with IDE parts? You posted up a nice rig, but there's no consideration for OP's requirements.

I have to agree anything shy of the 3570k or haswell is rushing to buy .. relax lets see haswell first then make a decision

I think I will take Loopin's advice on the processor.

I do want to get a DVD drive.

Thanks to Wesley, Loopin and Kawak for all the great advice.
