Hi,

I am a new data contract subscriber on the MTN network. I need help in understanding the billing system of MTN.

During April I took out a data contract (R239 for 20 Gig on the MyChoice 5GB). Today on the MyMTN App I saw that the amount that will be debited at the end of this month is R535 and the running bill is R1127 (see attached screenshot

What does that mean? It’s far from the contract price of R239 for 24 months?
Is it a fault on the system or am I just not understanding the billing system of MTN.

Any help will be appreciated.

Pro rata billing of sorts, the discount hasn't been applied yet in all likelihood. Check on the invoice what's going on.

MTN's bills are also very late in arriving. The actual paper bill or bill delivered by email for my wife's phone has never ever stacked up. I have long since just given up trying to get MTN to explain it to me. I just wait until the paper copy arrives and then reconcile it with reality.

Even now, after the changes in April to the way in which data carry over takes place, the daily myMTN figures are never in line with reality.
Consequently, I use my service as a tehering point for most of her data usage.

I remember having this panic when I first saw my bill on the app, so yeah they charge by their standard bundles and apply discount at the end of the month. So you'll only be charged R239 at the end of the month although the bill will show these amounts during the month

MTN works on a 3 month cycle. So that amount could include pro-rata, current running bill etc.
A word of advise make sure you monitor your balance a day before and after new data is load.

(Taking a MTN data contract was the worse choice i ever made... )
