Help needed to decide E8400 or Q9400

DDR2 vs DDR3
Is it not best to go for DD3 just that bit faster than ddr2??

DDR3 is about 2 - 5% faster than DDR2.

Save cash and get DDR2, spend more cash on CPU/GPU.

Trust me, you can't go wrong with 4GB DDR2 on the Asus P5Q. Awesome board, and you can get it + 4GB DDR2 for the price of the Gigabyte (overpriced) board you mentioned earlier.

It all depends on what resolution you are going to game at. If it's anything under 1920x1200, your whole system is going to be somewhat bottlenecked. Also, LCD's can only display up to 60FPS at the moment, which a lot of cards can achieve these days.

Intel will be launching their mainstream Nehalem parts soon, called Core i5 and running on socket LGA 1155. This will also use DDR3 ram, but in a dual channel set up rather than the triple channel version in Core i7. Core i7 will actually possibly last longer then i5, read up at Anandtech this morning about that. Although Core i7 is still very expensive, it's a system that won't exactly be slow overnight.

How about

Asus board ddr2 1200 4gb, Q9550 overclocked to 3Ghz? GTX 280 will this last me a few years? I guess its very hard to keep up with tech any ways.

When will ATI bring there new boards out? What is the name of the new ATI board to come out? Do you think the new ati cards will vbe out in a few weeks?

I see the I5 might come out Q3Q4 2009 which is abit of a wait

Sounds good, but go for a GTX285, from what I can see it's not much more. Will last a decent while.

AMD AM3 was released 3 days ago. Currently there are AMD boards that support AM2 and AM3. Stick to Intel though, unfortunately they are leading the CPU race.

Sorry i was not clear about the ati boards.

When will AMD bring out their latest ATI graphic card board to compete with the GTX 285 and the GTX 295?
