Help needed: Updating Acer A501 tablet's Andriod version

Hi, I have an Acer A501 with Android 3.0.1 The unit is basically useless as I cannot even get into the Play Store. still has Android Market, which does not work anyway.
I would love to be able to install Android 4.4.4.
Can someone please explain step by step what I should do. I'm a noob when it comes to this type of thing, I'm looking for an idiots guide.

Good morning Nick, I had a look at this thread yesterday, this thread assumes you understand how to flash, how to get these files onto the tablet, etc.
It is still to complicated for me.
 
I found the xda one, but to be honest, it is way to complicated for me, every time I click on a link, it opens another thread with more links. There does not seem to be a simple step by step process for noobs like me.
I must have 10 tabs open from xda at the moment

Yeah, I see what you mean. Seems like there is a workaround way that you need to get to load the Skrilax bootloader and stuff, flash the cwm recovery, then flash the rom, which is not stable, and untested.

I could do this if I had my hands on one.
Sorry man, you have a not-so popular device on your hands, due to the uncommon Tegra chipset. Building and reverse-engineering that binaries (code to interface with the hardware/software) for the Tegra chipset, ain't nobody got time for dat.

I learnt how to do this complex stuff flashing ROMs since I got my first Android phone. (Erm, tablet)

As well as that cheapo tablets you get like for sub R1k. That Allwinner A30, A20 7inch tablets with 512mb RAM...

I see Asus tabs were also mentioned along the lines. Were using that same chipset a while back. not-so-1337 tabs, I would say.

where you at? I'm willing to drop of 1 if you are keen on trying. Then maybe you can create an idiots guide so I can do the rest.

Well, I am very interested at this point, but I have to stop the bus right there.

Two things:
1. Time: I really don't have the time to do something like this, lets just say end of the year pressure.

2. Experience/resources: I have no experience in reviving/reflashing that device if in any case I brick it. I had one A500 many moons ago, that bricked itself somehow. (Friends tablet) It was dead as a dodo. There was/is no flash tools like ODIN(Samsung) or along the lines of diagnosing what was wrong. As I said, that device is scarce, not popular in the XDA forums, and out there as well. What do I do if I brick the device?

If you really want to play around with ROM flashing, etc, then get a second-hand Samsung device that was/is popular, have community support, like the S4 mini, S4, etc. I had an S4 mini running LineageOS for a while until it got lost/finders-keepers-stolen.

As for the A501, I can't do that. Rather safe than sorry.
