I have a Dell D630 and have forgotten the Admin password for the BIOS.

Now I want to re-install it and can't change the SATA mode from AHCI to IDE so I can get XP to work.

Anyone have any advice apart from calling Dell for the master unlock code?

You could download the Sata driver and install XP with AHCI mode.

Or you could try to unplug the main battery and the bios battery accessible when opening the memory slot at the bottom of the laptop, for a few hours.

I don't have a stiffy drive for this thing or I would do the SATA drivers:(

Do you think unplugging the batteries will work?

unplug the cmos battery and the main power..like battery or ac.Turn it on to discharge caps.Leave to simmer for 1 minute.Mix all ingredients back in and you got cooking.

OK, this is awesome.

Admin password has been cleared using the bootable CD available on this site

Simply boot and erase the TAG number then reprogram it. All is working fine now
