Hi ppl,

I got a problem. I got a telkom line and a 1 gig cap. I also got an account with axxess, 1 gig as well. I've been using my telkom account from the beginning of the month as usual like i do every month but noticed that my cap wasn't being noticed by telkom. So i though their systems were just slow or something so i carried on. I thought all was good until i checked my axxesslite account this morning to see that it automatically changed accounts to my axxesslite, which i neva do:(. I re-entered my telkom account after i found this out, and done some browsing. It still took bandwidth from my axxesslite account. Now i'm checking both account, and while downloading, both accounts to seem to show no usage:erm:. Has this happen to anyone else? First time it has happened to me. Maybe someone can help me clear up this weird situation...

ThankZ

By the way, the capped stopped being used at about 457MB...Now i currently only have 97MB left on my axxesslite account, which means i used 903MB this month on a account i never even log into...

In this sentence: "i checked my axxesslite account this morning to see that it automatically changed accounts to my axxesslite"
What is the it in "that it automatically changed accounts".

Are you telling me that "it" is your router and that you suspect that the axxess website changed your router configuration?

Hi dave,

It seems like that somehow, my router changed from my telkom account, to my axxesslite account. Is it possible that this can happen? All i know for sure is that i never change the accounts, but my axxesslite account is now almost finished(1GIG) and my telkom is still at the same usage level...

k let me jump in here quickly...

As I understand it you have both your ISP accounts set up on your router and then by accessing your router settings you switch between accounts. There is an automatated setting on the router that you can disable that allows your router to switch between available accounts automatically when there is a connection problem with the account being used.

My suggestion is that you configure your router from routing to bridge mode and set up your accounts as broadband "dial up" accounts on your PC to log in on which ever one you wish to use. This will enable you to control what account you use.

As a matter of interest there seems to have been a problem with Telkom's ISP login and authentication on Friday evenening when I take it your problem started and when this happened your router automatically switched to your AXXESS account because it could authenticate. Go the bridge setup way imo as it is the safest and you can control when you re logged in on the internet.

AcidT is saying that your router has an advanced feature that allows it to switch to a secondary account when the one account is failing, and, because Telkom was experiencing account-login problems, the router has probably activated this feature.

But, some questions remain:
1 - Who put the axxess-lite login details in the router as a second connection?
2 - How do you know if your router supports this feature?
3 - How do you know if this feature is running?
4 - How do you turn this feature off?

What router are you using Kavirz?

All routers has this feature unless it comes from Noah's ark. I do not know off the top of my head which page it is on but it should read something like ISP Accounts/configurations or secondary ISP details.

The account details is configured by the user himself.
When entering the account details you should on the same page have the option to disable the function that automatically swtches between accounts. I had a Zyxel and now have a Neatgear router and on both of them this feature was on the same page where the ISP details is entered.

I still prefer the bridge setup because I can control when and with which account I connect.

Hope this helps...

Thanks for the quick response. I've just checked my router and it doesn't have a second account setup. Normally i just change my account manually when the telkom one runs out. I guess somethis must have went wrong and it changed accounts. I will just have to be more careful next time. Ive read up on the bridge option and i not 100% sure on how to use it with Windows 7. Maybe you can leave a link for me to read up more on this topic. Thanks

By the way, i got a telkom router - Netgear DG834GU v5, and normally use the cd that came with it to change my login settings. Think that my first mistake, as it might have saved the second account as a secondary account and used up alot of my internet by auto changing it

That is the mistake. You should be able to access the router settings using the routers IP address it gives you after you have done the setup. You get a HTML page saved to your desktop with the routers IP address and login details after the setup is completed. Access the router via your web browser and there you will see that you can configure secondary ISP accounts and setup the automatic switching of accounts. No need to use the setup CD everytime like you do at the moment.

I now know how to configure it properly via the html login, so will not make the mistake again.

Thanks everyone
